In America, bread sticks are sticks of bread. They’re basically pizza crusts cooked independently of the pizza. That is a saltine stick.
That is a saltine stick.
It’s bald pocky.
you’re telling me bri*ish people can’t even bake crackers for themselves? they’re farming it out to italy?
baked crackers
Catching strays.
I feel like I haven’t seen those tack-sticks since the 90s or so.
I could immediately taste them again after seeing this image and my verdict is the same: icky
As a vehicle for dip delivery they’re alright but otherwise yeah. Too crunch.
Edit: y’know I retract this statement. The shape and surface area to bland dry dough does not make them “alright” as a dip delivery vehicle.
These always bring back extremely specific memories of office parties and New Years Eve celebrations in the 00s
I learned that when Americans refer to breadsticks its not these
What in the hell?
We call those cracker pencils.
That’s what they call my penid
i prefer the ones pictured to the typical american style breadstick, but to be fair the image that comes to mind is a doughy breadstick, something similar to Olive Garden fare, or a neighborhood pizza joint when I think ‘breadstick’
maybe its my american roots, maybe its me taking the word at literal face value. i dunno.
Olive Garden ain’t a real Italian joint, whoever makes their gravy has no idea what they’re doin
that’s a toast stick
We have grissini here, but, yeah, you’re more likely to get the ones made from pizza dough
really? wtf is a yank breadstick then, solidified HFCS?
Bread but in stick form. Kinda like those but thick and fluffier
How is it different from Ciabatta or a small baguette?
You eat them at Olive Garden until you can’t eat your food you ordered anymore.
Don’t fill up on bread!sticks
Repackaged pizza dough
wait till you learn what baguette means
Hon hon hon bread schlong?
Aren’t those the things that they give teething babies? A teething rusk?
Beta pory is so cute
ikr! It’s like a polygonal sunflower lion children’s toy
What is an American bread stick then? I’m imagining something horrible, probably with wrapped in processed meat and cheese or something
Not quite lol it’s usually something like this
Oh I see, wonder bread dough covered in oil and burned dry herbs.
I showed the “bread sticks” to my partner who is from Calabria and she was offended.
What do they call baguettes?
breadbat
what do you call them?
French walking sticks.
These are much thinner than baguettes and have a much softer consistency. We call actual baguettes “baguettes” but typically they’re mass produced, it’s hard to find good baguettes here unless you make them yourself

You can find these kind of breadsticks all over in the US, but I have lived all over the country and finding a good one is incredibly rare. I don’t even think most US Americans have ever had a truly good soft breadstick.
I was raised in the US but in a closed religious community and I never had American food until my 20s and when I did I thought all of it was absolutely gross, I lived there for a while after and never came in contact with these thankfully. I thought bread sticks were what OP linked
In true American fashion, it is quite a bit wider
