Yeah even if they have a beef with the local communists for being ineffective that’s still a far cry from claiming the local communists will put them in a gulag. I don’t believe they really believe that. If they do, that’s unhinged. I mean it is true that most European parties with Communist or Marxist in the name are actually more like tepid social democrats and often have very elderly members with perhaps backwards social views. But that’s not some intractable aspect of Marxist ideology but rather the result of 20th century anti-communism efforts in Europe. Also austerity, the actual CIA, and European reactionaries stoking up anti-immigrant bigotry among the working class. There are specific historical reasons why we’ve gotten to this point.
It’s purely magical thinking to believe there will be a repeat of the conflict between anarchists and Marxists similar to 1920s post-revoultionary Russia due to…some unspecific differences in political rhetoric or what? It makes no sense. The countries I’d say are poised to have conflict of a socialist character don’t have an internal anarchist/Marxist conflict from what I’m aware of. Some examples of places I mean are like: Venezuela, where there are some anarchist communes that collaborate with the broader socialist movement. Burkina Faso, where I’m not aware of any anarchist movement or suppression at all. There’s also Niger, Haiti, and Senegal that have recently had unorganized gang-like violence that I personally think resembles class warfare. Again, no specific anarchist/Marxist conflict from where I’m aware.
for the record it’s not even dealing with communists in their locality that made them opposed to communists, this is all based on principled ideological opposition.
I honestly don’t think they have ever spoken with a communist IRL, and have never engaged with them in good faith, they have only ever heard redditors like “CrunchyItchyAdam88” telling them how evil tankies are and they’ve just internalised that, and lack the self-awareness to realise that if they act as hostile as possible towards a group of people, of course that group is going to be hostile back.

People like that quickly get sniffed out on Hexbear, but on an instance like dbzer0, where “hating tankies” is more important than actually engaging with any leftist ideas, people like that can easily ingratiate themselves and push the people there into believing the most stupid (and eventually hateful) things possible.

I just recently finished reading Matt Christman’s ¡No Pasaran! and one of the things he repeatedly points out is that the sectarianism from the anarchist factions against the communists, while facing down the full force of the fascists backed fully by Germany and Italy, absolutely cost them the war. There is zero reason to fight someone on your side when the guys shouting “I’m gonna fuckin kill you” are bashing down your gates to fucking kill you.

It was great! I went with a few friends and it was first time I’d been swimming around other people since I started HRT so that was nice to rock a swimsuit in public.
Hell yeah! That’s still a goal I need to achieve. Bottom dysphoria is the main issue for me in that regard, and a discouraging thing when I think about swimsuits. I overcame my aversion to shopping for bras, now I need to overcome my aversion to swimsuit shopping.
The biggest hurdle for me it was mostly wanting to deal with all my body hair, getting a course of full body laser has felt life changing when it comes to being out in public.
I can only imagine how great that must have felt. As a kid I didn’t like the beach at all, I found the sand annoying (
) and it felt like a body show, which felt awkward and made me feel worse over how pale and skinny I am. And that’s without any gender anxiety.But in recent years I have nurtured a wish that my life and self-esteem improves to the point that I can have an experience like this too. It’s become a kind of final proof of how much I would have grown as a person.
This is the first time I’ve seen people push back on the Spain thing, because our friend there is right that the way db0 characterizes it as some “stabbed in the back” story is truly ridiculous. Like, there are no shortage of stories around the world of much more credible transgressions by communists against anarchists, and the communications building in Spain is not one of them.
It’s interesting because I’ve never seen someone push back on it, so I’ve always assumed it was just one of past communism’s L’s that future commies will just have to learn and do better from, like the USSR migrating populations around or not producing small commodities.
I didn’t know the story was different.
Yeah, I’ve even seen some apologists identify the conflict as starting with the capture of a communications building but with no context as to why it was being captured, as though it was some sort of Spanish anarchist “shot heard round the world,” when it really was just that the anarchists were sabotaging Republican communications in the midst of the war against Franco, so the Republicans took the building over with the help of the communists. You get all sorts of people (revealingly, Trotsky included) waxing poetic about how unforgivable it is for the communists to be working with the Republicans instead of trying to immediately overthrow them while fascists were at the gates, but people still tend to not mention the sabotage by the anarchists. To be fair, the first time that I did see it, it was from an anarchist who defended it, so credit to them for being transparent and at least minimally informed, even if their priorities are terrible.
Edit: I should further clarify that I am sure many anarchists today disagree with the decision to sabotage the Republicans, even though I’ve never personally seen one say so. I think most of them would either change their mind if they knew more about it or would at least drop it as a talking point because they understand how bad it looks (though for someone like db, it might be more of a “can’t use it here because the crowd got wise but still uses it elsewhere” kind of thing) (but most people aren’t db).
I never really thought about it, but there is an awful lot of “Judeo-Bolshevism lite” going on with these anarcho-libs, they blame “tankies” for every bad thing ever and treat tankies like a perpetual “man behind the curtain” destroying everything good in society.
Probably explains why a lot of the people who never grow out of this phase and into actual anarchists or communists end up going full fash themselves.

No, if you were going to post like db0, you would say that you don’t actually care that much, that your opposition is the one who are mad, post a wall of text saying as much, while also insulting the level of intelligence of the person you are talking to, then end that post with ‘disengage’ thus abusing the rule.
You can’t do anymore damage to the rule than db0 has already done himself.

Let me preface this by saying that, from what I have seen in screenshots, there was no ableism against db, db was just not taking care of themself by compulsively replying and getting mad at people replying to their replies, like it’s “ableism” to not let someone have the last word.
Which makes it really gross that they are taking the real complaints hexbears have had about the broader HB culture and cynically weaponized it by distorting the very concept of ableism. The real complaints that I’ve seen are almost the inverse, which are that certain comrades, particularly ones on a certain part of the spectrum, get labeled as “debate bros” and otherwise disparaged, getting comments deleted, sometimes even getting banned, when basically what happened was that they disagreed and were failing to let it go. There is such a thing as a “debate bro,” and we encounter them here often enough, but it can also effectively become a progressive-sounding way of saying “this autist keeps participating in this argument and I don’t feel like either engaging in good faith or ignoring it, so I’m going to just say they are a (white?) male chauvinist who is obliged to give me the last word.”
I’ve seen this complaint from at least three or four different people, though I think most of them aren’t around anymore.
I really want to try and make a post for users to communicate this to us so we can make a concrete plan for remedying this, I’m talking to the [email protected] and [email protected] mods on the best way to go forward. Thanks for the comment
