Why are federal and provincial conservative leaders echoing the talking points of QAnon?

It is! One of my best friends who became very vocal against drag queens reading to children and trans kids’ rights has fallen into a deep rabbit hole of alt-right radical conspiracy bs on YouTube. He also started sharing toxic masculinity guru videos in our group chats and videos from Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson for example.

I tried to give him counter arguments with examples and other videos, but when searching for content on YouTube, I had difficulty finding anything because, most of the content when searching for certain keywords, was just videos of alt-right talking heads.

Social media companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter are pushing an alt-right conservative agenda and their conspiracies. It’s pretty appalling.

Not only pushing it, but targeting it with algorithms that are explicitly designed to take advantage of vulnerable minds. It’s not only appalling, but unethical in every way.

Zoe Bee had a pretty good video on the Parents Rights stuff, too: https://youtu.be/mNOmFBw1I_M?si=btywuWSuG9ESJefB

And Shaun took on Andrew Tate recently: https://youtu.be/y6_TOFy3k6k?si=wFGX0fOYwinGLtRA

Shaun also has a notorious video discussing The Bell Curve, which is very, very good. The Bell Curve is a cornerstone of alt-right bullshit, since it’s one of the foundational books for “scientific race realism”: https://youtu.be/UBc7qBS1Ujo?si=YoqG8dJd9g4U8B5h

Here’s Unlearning Economics taking on Jordan Peterson and his views on gender discrimination: https://youtu.be/LKc_8fT6pGc?si=px5EupxJ7w3hslTG

Shaun again, this time discussing PragerU: https://youtu.be/EM7BgrddY18?si=NhawD6OoYbwiPr2t

This one’s less direct, but still actually relevant to toxic masculinity and conspiracy mindsets – Thought Slime discussing Gary Vee: https://youtu.be/OVE8J8dwJ5E?si=7h5wEQPsjhMjBd63

Here’s We’re in Hell discussing toxic masculinity in North America: https://youtu.be/MsEmOQeBcRA?si=Vo5S_iDaXlCV6IR4

And getting a little more high level about things, here’s Innuendo Studios (the Alt-Right Playbook guy) discussing the origin of conservatism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4CI2vk3ugk&t=333s which is itself an appendix to his Alt-Right Playbook episode, Always a Bigger Fish

These should give you at least a starting point, and help you build up a video history that will direct YT’s recommendation engine away from the shit you’re trying to counter.

To add on to this already fabulous list:

F.D Signifier on Fresh and Fit being deplatformed. Also covers men who are talking about positive masculinity: https://youtu.be/NH4AGs7x6WY?si=adDALUGWmdrAy2pQ

F.D Signifier has lots of videos about toxic masculinity in the black community.

The Art of Manliness podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@artofmanliness/videos

Waving the Red Flag podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@WavingtheRedFlag/videos

Sisyphus 55’s video “Journey into the Manosphere”: https://youtu.be/lSq3bcyrJY0?si=z7T4ks7dza7EiF9Y

Munecat’s video about debunking the entire manosphere: https://youtu.be/BgO25FTwfRI?si=rWfOS2A6roGNRMkw

The Zatzman’s video “The Existential Horror of Manosphere TikTok”: https://youtu.be/pvZITKjaffw?si=931ngUIafzFw7Ta8

Frank Landry’s video “The Cult of Fresh and Fit”: https://youtu.be/WBsCmYCShqI?si=KR5dGoRToShSyYFw

There is the Lemmy group, Men’s Liberation which is focused on promoting positive masculinity and feminism together: https://lemmy.ca/c/mensliberation

There is Leeja Miller’s video about the manosphere to alt-right pipeline starting https://youtu.be/U-V_xf2gAiI?si=oJ3BHVHXCbC0UQ6O

Meet the anti-Andrew Tates by Hannah Ewens: https://archive.ph/mNtAs

        Jason Wilson: https://mrjasonwilson.com

Hopefully between this and the above comment, we can get your friend on the positive masculinity to progressive pipeline instead of listening to bunch of shit heads.

There is a lot of content out there to challenge the manosphere and it’s grift.

I don’t have any particular advice for dealing with someone going down the nutjob rabbit hole but you might want to watch this: https://youtu.be/4xGawJIseNY?si=3wSkuLQIsi6PnPTT - it does the best job that I’ve seen of breaking down how and why people fall for that garbage.

I don’t know off the top of my head if there’s an episode about parents rights but I bet Cody’s Showdy has something. I know there’s a dedicated Jordan Peterson video which is really quick and easy(it’s actually 3 hours long, but very good)

Edit: here’s their ep titled Who Are The Real Groomers which has some good stuff debunking anti trans rhetoric https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wHva3JXPh0

Edit2: And here’s the brief takedown of Jordan Balthazar Peterson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSNWkRw53Jo

Edit3: Cody, Katy, and Robert Evans have done a lot of work against the ‘manosphere’ and it’s worth digging through their backlogs

I read something recently that simply getting the person to stop consuming the stuff works well. Obviously there’s a dopamine hit these things are giving (like most anything we watch) so that’s much easier said than done. I wonder if suggesting you do a challenge together - uninstall/restrict apps for 30 days - and put something on the line like a case of beer.

It’s difficult though, my mom and a brother both fell pretty hard into it (he even got into sovereign citizen stuff).
