Honestly upset they’re making a standalone and not iterating on the index. Middle finger triggers are fine, but the index controllers are really next level in terms of immersion. The only issue is that the switches in the sticks suck ass and drift after a few hundred hours. Also I’ve had struggles with steam link on a quest 3, and I don’t enjoy introducing unnecessary latency with wireless connections, especially in vr where anything above an 11ms frametime is liable to make people motion sick.

If the headset is capable of running intensive games on its own then I’ll be slightly reassured.

Latency is not that big of a problem since it renders a larger area than what you see. When you turn your head it’s local.

Hopefully the new Valve controllers are backwards compatible, so you can use those if they are better.

I’m probably going to buy the deckard anyway and hope for the best simply because my index is in rough shape (and honestly valve has NEVER given me a reason to distrust them), but if the controllers are indeed compatible I will be pretty happy. Still mildly put off because the switches are still trash, but it’s nothing a t3 screwdriver and a steady hand can’t fix.

Also didn’t know about the rendering. That’s actually pretty nifty. I’ve still had what I guess are connection issues where I’ll get dumped into the loading void for a few seconds, and I’d much prefer a wired connection to avoid that.

Make sure your computer is on a wired connection to your router if you don’t have it like that. When I had my computer on wireless it often worked but it was a bit unstable. With the computer wired, it was solid. So when I play I roll out the long Ethernet cable.
