Meanwhile the name brand stuff is twice as expensive and everything has security tags on
Cacao beans apparently went through a shortage earlier this year and everyone decided to shoot prices up to double what they previously were. Shortage is over, but they decided prices should stay the same.
And I doubt the child slaves on cacao plantations are getting paid any more.
Also for bags or boxes the box is the same size, but there is about 1/4 less in it. Yet the price is twice as much as before.
Had a look at the Christmas chocolates, same thing with all of them. A box of chocolates is pricier than ingredients for a full meal for a family. Which are expensive too.
A few years ago before the inflation hit Finland’s leading chocolate maker altered their gift box design while also completely coincidentally reducing the amount of chocolates in them by like 1/4
When they were asked about it they were just like “the consumers wanted more impressive boxes to make their special occasions feel even more special”
Fazer? I just saw the boxes today sold at about 6€. Funnily this is also one of the OG fash families (Whites) with firm ties to Germany afaik.
I’m pretty sure you used to be able to get 3 of those boxes for 10 euros around Christmas not too long ago. I remember because they were a simple, cheap present
Funnily this is also one of the OG fash families (Whites) with firm ties to Germany afaik.
Pretty sure it was like in 2021-22 when it was always 3 for 10€. Now it’s two for 10€ on sale, lol.
I really really dispise how hard Fazer has been able to build the brand on banal nationalism. Not to mention how hard they go on exploiting cheaper manufacturing countries and still have those outrageous prices. The laskiaspulla and runebergintorttu for example are all made in other countries, frozen and then sold here as “fresh”. With twice the price of local bakeries.
I could do a huge rant on how Fazer and a few other essentially monopolies have destroyed our bread culture and small bakeries here, but I’ll save that for another day.
To be completely honest, I very rarely buy anything from Fazer and when I do, it’s the few of their chocolate and biscuit brands that I happen to like. Definitely not any of their breads and other baked goods though, that shit costs an arm and a leg. It’s all the cheapest shit from Lidl or Prisma for me 😎
spoiler
I prefer Marabou’s milk chocolate anyway
Yeah I make my own bread now. I did that for a living and now it’s turned into a principle, lol.
Every time I look at stuff on sale or clearance I’m like “well this is just like what the price should be for this shit” I’ll never adjust lol
why bother with clearance aisles when there’s purrflectly good dumpsters?
“protect the value of food” really hits the nail on the head
First they’ll do what, shame consumers about letting some lettuce spoil that one time? Then they’ll donate some wasted food to food banks or whatever (which they already do) and the rest will go to be anaerobically digested by bacteria, cause god forbid anyone get “suboptimal” food from the dumpster and eat it. Human digestion produces greenhouse gases! its bad for the planet!
This is just like liberal rhetoric about homelessness. We have to eradicate it because living on the street or in tents or huts or encampments isn’t “dignified” but we do that by chasing them around with police violence and private security and pouring millions into the NGO/nonprofit industrial complex to house like 40 people a year, rather than serious investments in public housing and services
Grapes of Wrath quote about the kerosene and the oranges never stops being relevant
YES you get it this is the perfect summation of how i feel about this. it’s pure greenwashing bullshit
the worst thing is in my area we only can donate certain classes of items to food banks the rest goes into the tub. and the company truly exists to keep food prices high nothing more.
Dumpsters have poor accessibility
The sales price for floss was 10% higher than it used to be
The advantage of proliferating security tags is proliferating alarms and alerts until they mean nothing.
and I can’t even enjoy them anymore because of paranoia about lead
sometimes I buy the real oreos if I want to flex on my friends
Yeah like the Walmart has a whole end cap of Great Value versions of name brand candy, and the prices are like 79 cents or whatever. Which is what the name brands were in the before times.
