I know from personal experience and decades of living around Silicon Valley that a lot of ELO~N diehards are aging gen-x junior boomers that peaked in the 90s and still think South Park is amazing.
Some may have went further rightward when their “just joking about (slurs) why are you so thin skinned why aren’t you laughing” frustrations got worse and worse.

this is true in the midwest too, at least in the past 5 years, idk if they liked him early on
