I looked it up for the previous comment because I always confuse it with father Ted, and I was surprised to see it’s still on the air. I don’t think I saw it after Sid left. It’s too bad it went downhill, I was excited to check them out. I’ll give them a chance, but I really liked Sid.

1·14 小时前Invading the UK would be wild. It would almost certainly finally sever the ties between the US and Europe, but I could see the UK and Germany doing their darnedest to make it seem like a reasonable mistake that we can all walk away from as long as the US leaves.

1·14 小时前It is how people talk informally, but I would assume any mention of a girl or boy on the news referred to a child.
Yeah, I’m mostly considering the attitude towards difference, whether it’s because of the church or not is irrelevant. I mean, I already know that I’m not the ideal for any religion (except maybe Neoplatonism), whereas I only suspect that would be the case for any culture with low social development.
But, just to be clear, my original comment was related to being a loud, persnickety weirdo, which is generally punished by cultures with low social development, not with my personal “social development.” I brought up masking because I’m just not good enough at shutting up and blending in to fly under the radar.
That’s fair. I would also prefer they just tell the truth, but I don’t hold flimsy excuses against students (I teach adult immigrants the local language, so they’re generally pretty internally motivated and they have a lot more responsibility for their education than students in most other situations). Actively coming to me and requesting an extension would likely be a net positive, reputation-wise, tbh.
It does imo, but you get out of it what you put in. If I’m on my phone or cooking while watching, I will miss enough that I find myself losing interest. If I pay attention, it’s incredible.
You should check out Father Brown, if you’re a fan of the rest of those.
[During the physical stage], society is preoccupied with bare survival and subsistence. People follow tradition strictly, and there is little innovation and change. Land is the main asset and productive resource during the physical stage, and wealth is measured by the size of land holdings. This is the agrarian and feudal phase of society. Inherited wealth and position rule the roost and there is very little upward mobility. Feudal lords and military chiefs function as the leaders of the society. Commerce and money play a relatively minor role. As innovative thinking and experimental approaches are discouraged, people follow tradition unwaveringly and show little inclination to think outside of established guidelines. Occupational skills are passed down from parent to child by a long process of apprenticeship.
Guilds restrict the dissemination of trade secrets and technical knowledge. The Church controls the spread of new knowledge and tries to smother new ideas that does not agree with established dogmas. The physical stage comes to an end when the reorganization of agriculture gives scope for commerce and industry to expand. This happened in Europe during the 18th century when political revolutions abolished feudalism and the Industrial Revolution gave a boost to factory production. The shift to the vital and mental stages helps to break the bonds of tradition and inject new dynamism in social life.
(Emphasis mine) I didn’t mean like that, lol. They’d just find me… undogmatic, to say the least.
Meanwhile I’m just strapping slices of moldy bread to wounds and hoping for the best
the bigger blocker isn’t scientific knowledge, but social development.
Welp, I’m an autistic woman and I’m not that good at masking. I guess it was good while it lasted, friends.

I don’t know who that is, but it’s incredible nominative onomatopoeia. She does look like a fucking Punsie

10·1 天前I love old man non sequiturs. My dad’s response to a toddler asking him why over and over again is “because I’m building a bicycle made of bananas,” which tends to produce a perfect koan moment and break the question cycle
I’ve now got a craving for peppermint stick ice cream, which I haven’t thought about in at least a decade
They suspect. I’m a teacher, and I can promise you that of the five or so students who have crazy technical issues every year, four of them are making them up. I just can’t tell you which ones (at least not with enough certainty to make an accusations).
It’s all the valuable input of the I Ching, plus environmental destruction!
The judging in this thread has me wondering if any of you have dated more than a person or three. Perhaps all humans should be on the same page regarding AI? Be nice, but it’s anything but real. If you reject me for this one minor item, what’s next? And what’s next? Next?
Maybe it’s just more important to others than it is to you. I’m a vegan married to a butcher, because we can disagree about even ethical questions and still be a good partnership. I wouldn’t fuck with someone who brought out AI like this, because I want a partner who’s present in their own life. It’s not petty, it’s a selection criterion, we’ve all got them, and most people’s don’t line up exactly.
The hard line in the sand looks like: MAGA, racism, stupid, etc.
Is it worth it to hand a tech giant additional information about and control over such a small aspect of your life? How much water was used for your queries? Where did the data processing happen? What does the drinking water in that town look like? Every choice we make has consequences and for a lot of people, being that thoughtless about your own choices is equivalent to stupidity or MAGAdom.

That’s unnecessary piling on. I didn’t see anyone else mention how old they were, and I was curious, so I looked it up. Then I figured I wouldn’t make other curious people look it up, so I shared the information.
