Fucking stupid. I don’t even want to rant about the differences and how nobody now can even hope to buy a house in their lifetime.
When they havent changed the qualifiers for poverty in decades, it makes it look like it has decreased. The simple fact that our wages are stagnant, housing is unaffordable, our quality of life has significantly diminished.
The total amount I paid for my house in 1992 would not even be enough to cover the down payment for that same property today.

Did you read anything past that? I agree that it’s bullshit to say that the poverty levels are basically the same and I don’t know why on earth they’re using statistics that don’t reflect the vast difference in average wealth between the 70s and now.
They don’t consider that a reason to feel better about though, rather something to be ashamed about. They go on to talk about how the root of the problem is our economic system, compounded by our awful policy choices.
Poverty is a policy choice.
