ThiefAto Technology@lemmy.world•France runs fusion reactor for record 22 minutesEnglish22·2 months agoIt is awesome. Whichever country develops it first will be remembered as the next ‘moon landing’ event forever.
Yes this is true today but dont forget that linux is just generally slow. As each app is a docker there is one day the possibility of someone rolling all 4 or 5 apps into a preconfigured single docker or app that can be a one click install, easy to use. It just hasnt happened yet due to time/lack of effort and so on. Open source is slow like that. Its a voluntary thing so these things always take years.
Dont forget jellyfin and on mobile ruddarr to control them
Best way to help is to remind others to give it a try or at least have a backup instance. I would appreciate that more than anything since growing is very hard to do.
Its tiny but on the other hand its run on a $15 budget per month so I can afford to just pay for it forever so as a backup instance to use or to help reduce load on lemmy world it should be ok :)
Imagine they tell her they are swifties… she would have used to have mad love for them but now it would be bad blood.
Upgrading is always a nightmare but once its done generally lemmy improves bit by bit :)

You can monitor or track the federation progress here: https://grafana.lem.rocks/d/bdid38k9p0t1cf/federation-health-single-instance-overview?orgId=1&var-instance=lemmy.world&var-remote_instance=lemmy.myserv.one&from=now-12h&to=now
ThiefAto Open Source@lemmy.ml•[QUESTION] How do instances that use platforms such as Lemmy send verification, password reset, etc. e-mails? Do they use SMTP or some external service that provides an API?9·11 months agoEither a local SMTP server (less used) or an external service (more common). The SMTP is configurable but I believe most used option is ssl smtp over port 587.

This instance is just a single server so if its turned off then the impact is total, but in terms of the datacentre the entire site was down and power was slowly restored to parts of it and is still ongoing, we are luckily back online but some parts are still down and damaged. The site is 1515 round table drive Dallas TX.
I also purged the post you reported.

ThiefAto Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix adds 13.1 million subscribers, tops revenue estimatesEnglish1·1 year agoI mean so is control d a set and forget. Even more so because they manage any changes and workarounds the companies come up with. Its basically designed for this. Having tried both options its my preferred option.

ThiefAto Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix adds 13.1 million subscribers, tops revenue estimatesEnglish1·1 year agoYes I do use opnsense and it was more annoying than control d. I tried both options.
ThiefAto Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix adds 13.1 million subscribers, tops revenue estimatesEnglish4·1 year agoOne way I have reduced my subscriptions is by using control d. I know vpns are popular on lemmy but I found it an annoying to have to have a vpn for each device I wanted to bypass a country lock. Moreover it was annoyyng for some devices like apple tv that does not support a vpn. Establishing a vpn on the firewall broke other services that I needed to work locally in my country.
Control d on the other hand is a dns proxy tunnel so you just alter the dns on the devices you want to use it, and in their control panel you can have different countries per service - so if you browse youtube that can go via a country that does not allow ads. Bbc iplayer can be told to go via uk and so on. This is a lot more convenient and allows you to retain your country for all services except the ones you want to tunnel.
Fair. No clue why not working for you. As ling as you have something.
