Oh that’s still really neat! I’ve seen pictures of ones that make the vertical/parallel stick structures but not that exact kind. Apparently we have a similar kind around here too but I’ve never come across one. I think bagworm caterpillars and gall wasps are neck and neck for most interesting insect for me right now.

Check out bagworm moth caterpillars. Different sorts of bagworms make different style “cases” and while i can’t say for sure that this one hasn’t been doctored or hoaxed in some way, there are enough pictures out there that look similar enough that i assume the one in the above picture is just a particularly amazing specimen.
