I’m not sure if this is the right place to post or not, but I got a 22 Audi plugin EV a few months ago, and it’s coming due for inspection/maintenance. Should I trust a “normal” mechanic with it or pay more to take it to a dealership?
Call and have conversations with your local auto shops. I was surprised to hear from my long time local shop (3 locations) that I was welcome to bring my Volt to them. They had recently hired accredited technicians.
The Audi dealership will presumably have a precise maintenance schedule and is the safest choice. On the other hand, if this vehicle is a pure EV with no engine, there isn’t much maintenance to do. Most mechanics will be able to make a visual inspection of the running gear. One thing they may not have is access to the diagnostic system and may not be aware of problems that are reported in the form of a DTC.
You should be able to check the maintenance schedule to see if there’s anything electric related, but a normal mechanic should be fine.
Look at the list of maintenance and then ask around to shops.
My Bolt’s scheduled maintenance is a tire rotation at 7500mi
I have an EV guy who is a mobile mechanic specializing in EV’s
There’s not a lot of EVs in my part of the country, I haven’t been about to find anyone advertising they specialize in EVs yet.
