For any visiting lemmyverse people who may think this video sounds rational:

The perceived superiority of “developing” countries over “undeveloped” ones is flawed. Firstly, economic data for undeveloped countries is often incomplete, not due to primitiveness but because their economies lack extensive Western liberal economic activities, making them difficult to measure. Secondly, colonization leads to internal exploitation, where local elites collaborate with foreign businesses, creating an illusion of prosperity while the working class suffers. Thirdly, there is a recency bias, ignoring historical contexts like the situations in Singapore and Korea before and after WWII.

Furthermore, liberal economics lack a scientific, rational, and realistic foundation. Marxism, developing alongside other sciences, offered a more empirical approach, but industrial capitalism’s material conditions prevented its widespread acceptance.

Finally, the concept of charter cities or company towns illustrates modern imperialism, where foreign industries establish control in a country, manipulate local laws for profit, and gradually influence national politics, all under the guise of liberty and prosperity.

See Nicaragua for a real example of this. It’s happened there several times.

Basically, according to the video the idea is that since governments are protecting the interests of peoples in power by blocking positive change which make said changes very difficult to implement, instead of trying to reform the system (Revolution? What is that, A food dish?) we should try to found new cities inside the countries with their own separate legal framework and business code (because we obviously shouldn’t the ho so great capitalism silly commie) and that would somehow create competition against the central government which would force it to reform itself and give more freedom.

“charter city” what is it, an idealised vision of company towns?

      So, yes, basically.

governments are protecting the interests of peoples in power by blocking positive change

        who’s in power rn big-honk

then creating–at best–ancap communes but realistically towns that are the private property of a corporation will change the overall government… to cede its authority and let corporations own soverign territory and people clown-to-clown-communicationclown-to-clown-conversation

I want to see this person explaining Special Economic Zones in China and I guarantee that they’d hate them even though they’re basically a functional implementation of this just with more state oversight and planning.

Coincidentally I saw a video of his today about the Fermi paradox. Less controversial but just as bad, he basically turns around cause and effect and states that because we are alone we are an early alien civilization and are destined to conquer and colonize our interstellar neighborhood with hyper space capitalism. Way to turn such an interesting conundrum with so many interesting solutions into such dumb ideology porn.

For fuck sake, Isaac Arthur is a right wing Trump supporter science and futurism youtuber and even he doesn’t present an ultracapitalist “only the market can make us reach the stars” view. What’s this guy’s excuse?
