When you are running a prison with profits in mind, less staff and automating solitary confinement seems like a good solution.
Less staff means more solitary and more automated procedures. Means less care for inmates.
Personally I would pay more to rehab the inmates so they never have to return to those shit holes.

My guesses are “tough on crime” and “cruelty is the point.”

I’m using Jerboa. Is there a paywall bypass extension for the built in browser? Or is there a better lemmy client I should be using? Android, fwiw.
