“You’re projecting.”
“I am a hologram.”
What an incredible episode. So many things to think about! Still in shock from Bel Riose actually giving the command. I thought that would be his breaking point, but I guess they always let you down. I hope Bel makes the most of it, there’s no way he isn’t changed by this and remade into a dissident.
I absolutely loved watching Demerzel roast Day so completely. She only fucked him because she thought it would help her make him less of a shitty person? My God.
Maybe Terminus is gone, but its destruction has already led Demerzel to openly tell Day to go fuck himself and created a mortal enemy in Bel Riose.
Also really enjoyed the Demerzel/Cleon I backstory. Hope Dusk and Rue survive somehow!
Great episode, hope we’ll see some comeuppance next episode.
I wonder if Demerzel killing Dawn has any implications for her programming preventing her from being able to hurt the Cleons.
This episode was the season’s “Empire Strikes Back”. Damn Lee Pace is great
Probably the best episode of the season so far.
Though I do wonder how Seldom knew Dem is a robot. Just smart enough to figure it out? Or was it revealed to him?
And the dude crashing into the planet and living was a bit much.
I wonder if he inferred when he hologram’d at the palace generations later and saw Dem unchanged? Or perhaps he just had the right history books…
I knew as soon as his ship veered toward the planet that it’d go that way, a terrible choice Bel would be forced to make. But I was kind of holding out for love to conquer… because I’m a sap.
That makes sense, there wouldn’t be many other ways she’d still look the same. The other way would be if she’d also be cloned.
He also seemed to have figured out that she’s the puppet master, given how often he directly addressed her instead of Day.
Edit: Listening to the podcast of this episode and the show runner said around the 27m mark: “I will say this, and it’s… I’m not sorta betraying anything because it’s in the text of the scene, but Harri mentions her programming right? And so he obviously knows she’s a robot, so it seems like he knows a fair amount about her sorta backstory or her circumstances, which is interesting because we’ve not seen how he knows that. I’ll just plant that little seed.”
As for Bel, I was sure he’d choose to rebel at that point, especially since they’ve talked about that and it didn’t seem like Day had put his aura back on after taking it off before entering the vault.
I was also wondering why Day hadn’t put all of his clothes back on. Seemed like an odd continuity to stick to.
It’s been a while since I read the books. Does this show treat the source material well?
It’s a good TV show with a strong influence from the books, but is definitely not and never was going to be a faithful adaptation of the books. I know lots of folks on here/reddit would rather have that, but personally, I am glad for it. I enjoyed the books but I don’t know if it’s even possible, logistically, production-wise, to have a faithful adaptation, or that it would even be as enjoyable as the show we have. It has its faults but overall it’s a good ride with interesting and mostly compelling characters.
Might have to check it out some time, thanks. :)
