Then kids go to college realize the lies of the adults around them. Blah blah blah lib college ruined my kids.

I used to hear that from my dad all the time.

hahaha so accurate. I was born without fingers and grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness. They’d tell me I’d have fingers once the “new system” comes along with all this other made up garbage. Parent’s divorced around age 13, mom got dis-fellowshipped and shunned. Once I was old enough to take Earth Science and learn about the universe and age of everything. Something finally clicked like, “oh they’re all full of shit.”

Never looked back. I guess the unfortunate side effect is, I don’t believe in anything at all anymore.

That last side effect isn’t unfortunate, welcome to atheism. That is, I still believe in things, I believe in science because it’s right there, I still believe in some people because I see what they are capable of. I still believe, just not in fairytales

Oh I’ve been there for 30 or so years now. It is and isn’t unfortunate I guess. Just sometimes I feel like a contrarian asshole around people. I usually just have to keep my mouth shut and opinions to myself.

I don’t know a ton about the religion. I always kinda rejected it when we were forced to go. From my understanding without doing any research right now… Basically it’s their version of the rapture. 150k or so of their “chosen” disciples will get into heaven and the rest are said to have heaven on earth. Which the “worldly” people (as my grandmother referred to them, people outside of Jdub’s) would be wiped off the planet. So not far from other crazy Christian fantasies, just with the added flair of shunning your own family members if they leave the organization.

This fantasy of “I’m one of the good ones and all the people worse than me need to be killed” seems common to religious fanatics and authoritarians. Maybe it’s why nationalism and religious fanaticism often go together. Their followers share an inability to accept how complex and messy the world is, and how they’re not special.

Just wanted to add the obligatory, “I’m ashamed I live here but not all of us are this stupid or blind” comment.

Just the majority though. Because if they aren’t thick as mince and they don’t vote against these people, they’re dumber than the first group of imbeciles are.

In addition to the curriculum revisions, a proposed rule approved by the state board of education in January mandates that parents enrolling their children in the state’s public schools show proof of immigration status.

Describing the rule, which has been met with widespread outrage among parents, students and immigration advocates, Walters said: “Our rule around illegal immigration accounting is simply that … It is to account for how many students of illegal immigrants are in our schools.”

Right. There’s no way ICE would get called or just have access to the database.

Among those Walters appointed to the review committee were Kevin Roberts, the president of the Heritage Foundation and a key figure in its Project 2025 blueprint for a conservative presidential administration, and Dennis Prager, a radio talkshow host who founded Prager U, a conservative non-profit that offers “pro-American” educational materials for children that some critics say are not accurate or objective.

    No! 😮

Prager of Prager Not-a-University. On a committee that makes decision about actual school education. Goodness. But as things stand, it’s just another brick in the wall. The USA is doomed to fail. It’s just a question of When and How, not If.

Next up, calling slavery “jobs training” like Florida, then we can start just teaching blood libel after that.
