There is no reason for removing content like this unless an individual is specifically inciting violence, calling for murder, etc. just like always has been the case. Ridiculous policy and frankly worthy of locking down Reddit again.
Fuck Reddit. Glad I left that shit hole.
What do you think of this one?
lol love it
Spaz gonna help his ceo friends
Honestly I kinda wonder if he’s afraid for his own life. He had a lot of people calling for his head last year, and this kind of overreaction seems pretty in line with somebody who is just beside themselves with terror.
FYI, the S word is increasingly seen as a slur.
we have no choice
You are working for free moderating an obviously heavily censored shithole. You have several choices, starting with deleting your account.
Deleting their account doesn’t change the rules, only the person enforcing them.
I’m seeing a pretty obvious parallel to Luigi’s actions in your statement. I don’t think it’s as straightforward as you’re making it out to be
It’s like Wargames. The only way to win is not to play.
Speaking of which, anyone have a copy of it they can post?
That’s it? I guess the idea is to suppress it to hope that this goes away sooner?
I mean, yes, it technically fits the definition of manifesto, but the word that comes to mind a “blurb”.
I wonder if Ted Kaczynski or anyone else’s manifestos along anti-corporate-establishment lines are being censored. If not, maybe it’s because they’re a little less digestible. If so, then maybe some articles by Elizabeth Rosenthal.
Is there any reliable source for this? I’ve heard there’s a fake one floating around, not sure if one is confirmed.
And this doesn’t say a whole lot.
This is who posted it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Klippenstein
I’d say you can trust the source here.
Where did he obtain the copy from? This article doesn’t provide any source info to follow up on.
Thank you!
“we have no choice but to follow Reddits guidelines”
There’s another choice, but that would require you to look past reddit.
Not that the mods are aware, but if Reddit disappeared tomorrow, I (sadly) suspect most users would go to Twitter or various Discords.
Discord I can see but someone who isn’t on twitter in 2024 would look for an alternative to Reddit there…? I don’t see the logic.
I’ve thought about it as some of my niche interests have dried up on Reddit and apparently only live on Twitter now.
And maybe Discord. It’s hard to tell because it’s closed, but I see hints of discussion spilling out into GH issues or whatever.
I despise both for different reasons, but where else am OlI gonna go if I actually want to talk with the community?
I still use Twitter. It has a pretty awesome metal community. People I’ve shared music with for many years now.
Blue Sky, mastodon, lemmy, maybe threads. Hell, HN if they’re programmers.
I don’t like threads but I’d say it’s more likely than shitter
Didn’t lemmy.World admins also have an issue pinned earlier?
Yeah we’re not allowed to discuss jury nullification.
A legal part of the justice system cannot be discussed?
You can for past crimes, not future crimes.
The whole statement: https://lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld
About the manifesto
If it’s confirmed, I don’t see why not. Depends on the community, of course. I’m sure !lemmybewholesome would remove it.
https://lemmy.world/comment/13922763
On the other hand, there is [email protected] that got created recently. This thread can interest you, it talks about jury nullification: https://lemmy.world/post/22973877
!lemmyworld
We have previously asked moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification when this was suggested in context of murder or other violent crimes. Following a discussion in our team we want to clarify that we are no longer requesting moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification in the context of violent crimes when the crime in question already happened. We will still consider suggestions of jury nullification for crimes that have not (yet) happened as advocation for violence, which is violating our terms of service.
Not true - we’re just not allowed to discuss jury nullification in the context of encouraging someone to commit a violent felony which includes the promise of absolution through jury nullification.
Or something, idk. It was kinda weird.
Jury nullification as two English words that can be spoken one after the other, however, is perfectly allowable.
We will tolerate these beatings because we are still in love with the assaulter.
Hidden Donuts, why are you hiding?
I am? Or am I missing a joke here? Wouldn’t be the first time
In Linux, putting a “.” before a file/folder name hides it. ;)
Ah shit my cover is blown, never used Linux
There’s no hiding it. They can tell by your socks.
./Ha_ha
Hidden files on Linux start with a period.
Lemmy has to be one of the very few places on the internet where a Linux based joke isn’t considered obscure.
It should’ve been obvious by now whose side Reddit is on, but not even allowing neutral reporting on Luigi’s own words is a bit too establishment even for them
You mean that the company whose CEO caused a diaspora of users with his profit-seeking behavior may be siding with CEOs and not with the CEO killer?
Wouldn’t want the LLM’s trained on reddit to be too sympathetic towards the people and antagonic against authority.
What a dookie instance. Can’t believe I spent over a decade in that corporate zoo
I mean, it didn’t start as one, but it morphed into one over time. Early Reddit was pretty great.
Yeah I wasn’t aware of the ol platform enshitification pattern. Hardly anyone was - probably the creators and administors of reddit weren’t entirely aware either.
We were just a bunch of folks on the net trying things.
platform enshittification
It was called Eternal September back from Usenet days when the Internet was mainly an academic thing and every September old users braced for an influx of freshmen starting new academic year and getting access to newsgroups. I was aware shit was reddit’s final form even back in 2006. I’m actually surprised the shareholders left it unmolested for so long.
When the students came in and got on Usenet, that was just regular September. Eternal September when AOL or CompuServe, or one of those added Usenet. It was like the kids never had to leave at the end of the academic year.
Except for all the child abuse of course
It wasn’t always like that. The real shitshow only started when Huffman took over.
This revolution needs to get real French, real fast…
If this isn’t the spark, considering the momentum it has, nothing will ever “get French” for them.
For a supposedly gun infested and ultra violent country, there is an eerie calm lasting for decades.
Most probably this was a one time thing?
I feel it’s more like ‘nothing ever happens until it does’ statement that I read about. Basically there is a lot of build up that seems like nothing is happening. Then it reaches critical mass and things change. Think the US civil war. The US wasn’t going to free slaves. There was more uprisings and events, like John Brown and Nat Turner, and nothing was going to change. Until it did.
You know that one ended with the reign of terror followed by the crowining of a monarch that then embroiled the entire European continent in war, right?
It’d be a real shame if spez got Luigied…
I don’t want him to die, I just want him and all his financial supporters to be destitute and penniless.
…in a video game.
And before everyone starts dunking on LW, a mod has said that the manifesto would be allowed
If it’s confirmed, I don’t see why not. Depends on the community, of course. I’m sure !lemmybewholesome would remove it.
I get where you are coming from but 1 mod saying it may be okay for them isn’t that reassuring
Someone should try and see.
Worst case that’s another post on [email protected], and more people leaving .world for another instance
Yeah but fuck .World
I’m definitely not the biggest fan of the current overcentralization of users and communities on LW, but it’s still important to show what their stance is.
So can I post something that’s NOT Mangione’s manifesto and just change a word or two?
“To Nintendo, I’ll keep this short, because I do respect the legacy of what you’ve built. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone. This was fairly trivial: some elementary research, basic plumbing know-how, and a lot of patience. The notebook, if recovered, has some scattered notes and plans that outline the gist of it. My toolkit is pretty locked down because I’ve spent years perfecting my craft in fixing leaks and navigating pipes, so there’s likely not much info there. I do apologize for any disruption or shock caused by my actions, but it had to be done. Frankly, these corporate overlords simply had it coming.
A reminder: Nintendo has long been a giant in the gaming industry, but for decades, the reality is that they’ve leveraged their power against not only creators but their own loyal fans. The restrictive policies, the aggressive legal tactics, the artificial scarcity—all these tactics are designed to extract immense profits while stifling innovation and community-driven creativity. It has grown and grown, but as the freedom for creators? No, the reality is, this company has simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to exploit their position because fans and consumers have allowed them to get away with it.
Obviously, the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly, I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. But many have highlighted Nintendo’s tactics—shutting down fan projects, ceasing the production of beloved games without explanation—decades ago, and yet the problems persist. This is no longer an issue of awareness; it is a question of unchecked power. Evidently, I am the first to challenge it with such brutal honesty.”
What a timeline to live in
It’s reddit. You can do anything you want as long as you love the taste of boot.
