Anyone have experience with it? Is it okay?
Update: I will not be joining bluesky lol
I’ve been calling it blue twitter and live laugh love maga. It’s just as fascist as twitter and just as much of a hellsite, but it’s libs ecstatic about the civility and coziness of the place and how nice and comfy it is.
This is because the nuclear block feature lets them instantly remove anything that challenges them in any way, allowing the creating of armored echo chambers very quickly.
On the plus side all of weird leftist twitter is there, along with the Swifties, black twitter, everyone in Brazil, and other groups. There’s fewer porn bots and groypers. The libs who don’t block you are posting premium s grade nutritionally fortified :brainworms
There’s also tons of artists and there’s lots of organic engagement right now because it’s shiny and new and the enshittification hasn’t started.
I posted in the mega but I got a lot of young Chinese men posting their feet w/ socks on inviting people to subscribe for more. A lot are probably bots. Lots of NSFW art too but the filter settings are pretty good.
Idk it’s full of zios. I posted about Palestine and went on an argument with someone who claimed telling Israel to stop killing children is antisemitic because Hitler blamed Jews of killing children.
It’s bad because it’s trying to be Twitter and Twitter was never good and can never be good.
Elon Musk didn’t ruin Twitter, he unmasked it.
There seems to be a wider variety of people and interests since all the Musk fans stayed behind in X. However, BlueSky has a feature thats a double edged sword called starter packs. They’re cool because you can use them to block all rules following Nazis with a single click. Or subscribe to a bunch of people in a niche hobby. Problem is that there’s also starter packs to block anyone vaguely leftist and those blocks make it so your comments dont even show up for anyone else under the post. So it doesnt seem to be good for political agitation since its very easy to get filtered, but a lot better than Twitter for hobbyist stuff and artists if you were missing any of that.
Edit: also a lot of academic content. Theres starter packs for professors in a lot of different areas which is kind of cool.
I’m currently on twenty one different block lists, most of which are some variation of “tedious tankie”. About 1270 people have blocked me in total using the lists. I predict that if it’s still up in a few years it’ll consist of extremely insular tumblr like micro-communities driven by a hyper-toxic cycle where someone upsets a block list moderator and gets instantly zero’d from everyone they follow with no warning or recourse.
I am curious about the divergence of Twitter seekers between BlueSky, Threads, and Mastodon
Yeah, idk. I was never on twitter. I’m looking for actual good social media outlet to just tap into the larger community, particularly one that’s privacy focused.
it is no better or worse than twitter at the heart of things, it is just another app where you can make 250 character posts and where you interact with other people’s 250 character posts. it definitely skews liberal but lol - what you follow is what you get.
However, since Musk’s acquisition - Twitter (I should call it X because fundamentally they are different but eh) is 99% verified bots running the cheapest version of chatgpt regurgitating the exact thing the original tweet they’ve latched onto said so Bluesky is definitively ‘better’ in the sense that it has actual moderation for that and there isn’t a paid class of users getting their racist/AI generated/bait for engagement money posts artificially boosted across the entire platform.
It’s been lib playground from the very beginning. When it comes to politics the site is far worse than Reddit. Bluesky libs have a serious blocking/muting fetish. They absolutely love it. The blocking function in particular is nuclear. If you’re in a thread and for example you have three comments - if the OP blocks you - all those threads disappear.
In the aftermath of the election and faster exodus from Twitter - there’s been a flood of super shitty lib accounts. The site started to be big enough that the worst, most generic, uninteresting, highly popular shitlibs have come over like Meidas Touch. The account name is “clever” lib wordplay based on King Midas and Trump because everything Trump touches turns to shit.
So that means there will be a ton more accounts that like now that Bluesky is cool enough and Twitter is hated enough.
There will be hardly any leftists voices in any popular lib thread due to all the muting/blocking. In my first account I was dismayed to learn I had artists, nature photographers, etc block/mute me because they must have hated my posts on my own profile. To be clear - I only spoke to them about their interests in a polite way. Of course I didn’t say something like “Oh, is that a petrel? And why you are shitlib?”
i left a year ago or a bit more, too many libs telling me to vote for joe biden. also everyone on there has an annoying superiority complex about not being on twitter when it’s the same thing.
micro-blogging is kinda bad in general. do we really need a thousand different twitters? imo there should be zero twitters
I guess depends on what you’re looking for. There are a lot of shitlibs and as it mimics the functionality of twitter it will probably suffer from the same problems in the future. Currently there are few reactionaries and it experiences a wave of new users. I saw that it has some nice feature for getting users started in a specific direction, called Starter Packs. I saw one starter pack that lets you follow a load of game dev people
and another one that covers some nsfw accounts that are leaving twitter. One thing positive is that it’s currently not owned by Melon HuskI think it offers the same potential for community building as twitter.
social media is brain poison
Death to America
I use it to post my art, and since some of my art is Furry related (SFW), and a bunch of Furry artists are fleeing to Bluesky, and I hate Instagram…
I decided Bluesky as my one place to post art things. Btw, it seems that the Furry community is largely in Trans solidarity, so that’s nice. I’m still using a VPN however.
I can’t speak for the gringo side of it, but the Brazilian side is pretty good so far. Tons of artists and leftists migrated there when it was banned here. The bulk of right wing fuckos migrated to Threads and now are probably back on Twitter.
Not having an algorithm pushing stuff down your thorat is great tho.
If you are trying to escape the titanic after it hit an iceberg would you rather get on another titanic-class ship operated by the same person who built the Titanic and is already hyping how fast this new ship can go or get on a boat owned by some sailing nerd who is part of a coop flotilla of eccentric nerds and commies?
That is the choice between Bluesky and Fediverse. If you chose bluesky you chose wrong, sorry there’s no other way to put it.
