Honestly seems like the latter at this point, given how common this is. You can find guys with nazi tattoos in the US military and police but it’s uncommon enough to make the news. There’s nothing remotely like Ukraine where every picture of ten adult men someone has an obvious Nazi tattoo.
Like, at the start of the special military bullshit I thought the RF was exaggerating the Nazi thing for propaganda purposes and now a few years on it’s like Nope fucking nope Ukraine really is absolutely filthy with Nazis.,
I still think Putin isn’t as concerned about neo-nazis as much as he is NATO and taking parts of Ukraine for capitalist interests. But holy shit it’s been icing on the cake for Ukraine to be infested with nazis. It’s probably why more Russians aren’t against the war. Morale wouldn’t be high if they were fighting solely on behalf of the country’s billionaires. But offer them a chance to kill genuine fascists? People will volunteer to do that for free.
