Yeah, but the difference is that Lemmy mods and admins pretend like this site is better about treating their users than others.

We’ve got mods doing the same shit here on Lemmy. Easy enough to ban users and keep all of their contributions regardless of what the user wants.
If you post on any social media, consider it no longer yours at all.

Because reactive abuse exists and there was a lot of public judgment against Amber Heard that went beyond reasonable. I think they both are kinda fucked, but it’s understandable how a subreddit like Fauxmoi ends up being anti-Trump and pro-Heard. It’s a rather feminist leaning subreddit as well. They’re also very pro-Palestine.
It’s only excusing it if you support manifest destiny.

This happens so much, their is a name for it “Family annihilation” or Familicide. It’s almost always the patriarch who does this. Women do it too, Andrea Yates comes to mind, but that’s much more rare.
I’ve always found it interesting that while men do familicide often, we forget about it. (Psychology Today puts the rate at 1 every 5 days in the US) Meanwhile women who do the crime like Yates or Smith become notorious for decades. Admit it, you’ve forgotten the name Kristopher Karolkiewicz from the article you just read, but you remember Susan Smith from 30 years ago.
Your characterization of their initial comment is a bit unfair.

I know there’s people who remember Andrea Yates by name. A handful of anecdotal evidence doesn’t disprove yesman’s point either way.
If we’re talking about familicide, let’s stick to the topic. Casey Anthony is not a family annihilator and her crimes are irrelevant to the topic at hand.

I didn’t claim that user was “being salty”. I think the people mass downvoting me for stating a relevant fact are being salty. I agree with @[email protected]

There’s some great conversation in the comments on that post about Lemmy! It’s helping to expose alternatives to people who are growing discontent with Reddit’s moderation.

Casey Anthony is definitely not a family annihilator in the way we’re talking about, there was a single murder in that case.
We can all acknowledge men are the prime perpetrators statistically with this type of crime without making up sexist things like “everybody only ever remembers the 2 women who do it” that isn’t true.
I didn’t make this claim.

See, I think we differ in opinion a little bit. I think that some parts of Reddit are good, particularly the smaller niche subreddits that are mostly hobby focused. I think the people that use Reddit, some of them not all of them, are interesting and offer different world views and opinions and problem solving that Lemmy should be embracing.
It’s the real human users that make a space interesting and worthy of participating.

Actively participating in celebrity gossip is indicative of multiple character flaws.
So is participating on Lemmy, but here we are ;)

People have diversity of interests. Wanting to participate in gossip isn’t mutually exclusive with caring about marginalized groups or politics.

…pssst. It’s fascist with an ‘s’ before the ‘c’.

We’re literally on a post about a man killing his entire family.

I’ll never understand a man’s reasoning for doing that. How can one be an arbiter over the lives of your partner and kids…
And I’ll never understand a grandmother’s reason for doing this
Why did you respond this way? I’m sincerely asking for the record.

No, I’m echoing that family annihilators are overwhelmingly male.
I’m very open to talking about WHY men are the ones to commit family annihilations at much higher rates than anyone else. And there’s some good convo happening about that in this very thread as well.
Between this, the AI moderation banning a shitton of users, and the shadow-banning (sort of) of larger subreddits will naturally push more people to the fediverse. I’ve seen a significant uptick in conversations about Lemmy in the few subreddits I still keep tabs on.
Now that it’s open knowledge that Reddit is limiting who sees left-leaning subreddits, even more people will start to look for alternatives.
