21·8 days agoYes it is. Language and meaning don’t simply change in 10-20 years unless forced upon (such as a conqueror forcing culture). Neologisms are a thing, and that’s fine (though I would argue “bling” is a garbage word :) ), but using “literally” to mean “not literally” is redefining the whole purpose of the word in such a short context of time simply because of ignorance. Therefore, I assert what I argued already – it’s not widely accepted – just widely misused.

Yeah, no. People who use it incorrectly simply don’t understand language or meaning. Just because there’s a lot of people who misuse the word doesn’t mean it’s widely accepted. A lot of people believe in a god, doesn’t make it true.

3·11 days agoJust because it likely won’t happen doesn’t mean it can’t happen. And you seem to have purposefully left out the rest of my sentence: “to enshrine the VRA, etc – of course the states have to ratify which could be a tall order.”
This is the kind of cherry-picking that runs rampant in discourse today and adds literally nothing to the conversation.

Bullshit. The whole point of checks and balances within this system of government (though it’s not working presently) is that Congress can work to override the judiciary when they get it wrong. The Constitution can be amended to enshrine the VRA, etc – of course the states have to ratify which could be a tall order. And since the judiciary gave the president carte blanche to do whatever he/she wants, they could simply sign an executive order at this point to deal with this and say “Fuck you” to the Supreme Court.
It’s all relative.

5·19 days agoAs long as I’m able to game with stability and fidelity on Linux, Microsoft can suck it. Thus far, it’s been working pretty well (once I figured out a few issues I was having with dual display/differing refresh rate/wayland and AMDGPU/aspm).

This definitely has to do with AI. Because CEOs are losing their stupid minds over it. I agree with you in principle, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that this specific technology is what CEOs are drooling over. Even in my company I had to tell the owner/CEO, “What problem are you trying to solve with AI?” His response was his mouth being open with a dumb look on his face.
So no business should rely on AI (or, to your point, any software) that it becomes detrimental to their business or workforce should that access be revoked.
