Bike theft is such a problem where I live I’ve been very hesitant to get another one. If they can’t get the whole bike, they’ll wrench off tires/seats, etc. My town might be an outlier, but I wonder how other people deal with this kind of thing when their bike is their primary form of transport.

  • I know it’s not a solution, but the libraries where I live provide water, shelter, bathrooms, and outlets to charge a phone when they’re open. They keep longer hours and serve as cooling/heating centers during heatwaves and cold snaps, and host agents from a number of supportive services a couple of days a week. I know it’s not their job, and that there should be dedicated, fully funded solutions for these things, but some library systems are trying very hard to meet people’s needs where other government services aren’t.

I don’t always pay attention to the deep lore in games, and that sometimes hits me all at once. I’ll find myself thinking, “Wait, why did I come all this way down a giant tree full of monsters to kill this lady? What the heck did she do to me to deserve that?”

Perhaps it is naive to tell stories of a powerful being who remains uncorrupted by power. But perhaps it is also naive to tell stories of a man who can fly like a bird. Suggesting that making up fantastical, magical human beings is sensible in itself, and that it is nonsense to then imagine them being both good and powerful seems like an insult to imagination altogether. But I suppose that it’s easier for some people to re-imagine the laws of physics than it is for them to temporarily quiet their lack of faith in humanity long enough to enjoy a movie.
