In a similar boat. I decided I wanted to actually learn spanish, so a couple months ago I got serious about watching Comprehensible Input (Dreaming Spanish). Between that and self study and speaking practice I’m already well past where I was in high school, though I still have a long way to go to fluency.
It’s frustrating that I have to find this all out years after my education. But I feel that way about most subjects I learned in school, so this is no different.

Shin has a vegan ramen. I have like 10 boxes in my pantry.
That’s dumb, sorry about that. If you want to smooth over the office politics, you could bring in an identical bag of chips (or equivalent item) and offer to share with coworkers. Obviously maybe cost prohibitive but might make your narc coworker relax a bit.
Yes, this is why spay and neuter and trap, neuter, release programs are so important. We need to also be actively reducing the population of pets while caring for the ones that currently exist as best we can. And sometimes the “best” option is to euthanize, but it is definitely not a decision taken lightly.
I encourage you to read up more on the killing animals thing. They essentially do it out of compassion, because most of the animals that end up at PETA are cases shelters are not equipped to handle and thus require a higher rate of euthanization. Even our local humane society has a relatively high euthanization rate, but it’s because most of the other local shelters are no-kill and so their worst cases get sent there. I am friends with serious animal activists and they critically support PETA, though are part of different orgs themselves. Like I said, they have made mistakes like any other large org, but I think they have been a net good for animal rights.
I think they make mistakes, but are overall effective at bringing animal rights issues to the masses. Interested in hearing why you have that opinion.

adagio? that stuff is amazing
It definitely seems like she’s trying to will being an astronaut into fruition (PADI, skydiving, pursuing PhD, etc.). Idk how successful that will be for her, but she’s years from even being eligible to apply. I know some people that have had their references checked for astronaut applications, and they have all of that stuff and several years of experience in the engineering industry.
I try not to be that guy, but I have a lot of friends like this (will literally venmo charge you in the moment). It just makes the relationship feel transactional.
if you like bergamot the adagio earl greys are fantastic but a lil pricey
Right. Basically if you’re in a position to max other retirement accounts and are relatively healthy, it’s a great option. Think tech bros and engineers in their 20s-30s making $100k-200k per year, not hedge fund managers with families.
It’s worth reading Messiah to (mostly) conclude Paul’s character arc.
no I’m being completely serious. we’re talking about the place that builds Mars rovers, not weapons. unless just working for the US govt qualifies, in which case, sure.
agreed
i don’t see how working for JPL is “working for the MIC” in even the most generous of interpretations.
probably the hundreds of workers that just lost their jobs because our congress prioritizes weapons and “border security” over space exploration
Think its hilarious that Argentina is all messed up (does it exist?) in this one lol
