I did look it up, and you’re right. The nearest hospital from Oval Spring Apartments is about a 6 minute drive. So I guess that’s the bare minimum after you shoot a baby. But maybe not shooting people holding and/or near babies should be in the training that he apparently followed by the book, according to Independence’s police chief.

It seriously is basic gun safety to be aware of the things that are around (usually behind) your target. Cops that don’t follow basic gun safety shouldn’t be considered to be properly trained when they shoot things other than their intended targets. But then again, I have a functional brain so I would never be able to become a cop.

I think I’ve landed on Flatpak as my favourite between Snap, Flatpak, and AppImage. AppImage, when it works, is nice though. Snaps are just kind of inconvenient (auto-updates are a no for me) and bloated and the things Canonical are doing as an organization put a bad taste in my mouth.

At this point, I am an LMDE shill because it works so well for my non-tech wife. She has only had to use the terminal 3 times since I installed it for her in the summer and most of what she needs for day-to-day desktop computing came pre-installed.

I think that teens and kids are going to kill themselves because of this regardless of how difficult you think it sounds. I was a trans teen and waiting until I was 18 caused me to attempt suicide. In Ontario, Canada people can opt in when renewing their health card (a card used to access public healthcare) or driver’s license, and it probably does positively impact the rate of opting in, but it really doesn’t seem to address the need. I’ve been a registered organ donor since I was 16, but most people I’ve brought it up with aren’t.

I suppose if choosing an option is mandatory instead of voluntary then that would change things for the better. Is that what Germany is doing?

I think this post is alluding to the results of the US election and asserting that (at least part of) the reason is that many people decided not to vote.

Related to people’s tendency to do nothing when faced with the need to opt in is the status quo bias—the tendency to do nothing when faced with making a decision.

For what it’s worth, I agree with you. Most telecom infrastructure funding has been historically pocketed. There is a chance it does work, though.

If not, maybe the tariffs will help in the short term by minimizing profit from overseas supply chains and incentivize American manufacturing, causing a positive effect on the sector in concert with CHIPS (but I doubt it).

I don’t know anything about Jellyfin as a user but I’ve heard from others Jellyfin and Emby are ready to compete with Plex on a level playing field. Not sure if it’s an exaggerated hype or not. :P

Plex is fine as a whole, it just handles my music library kind of clunkily and doesn’t have much support for organization or dynamic playlists. It’s obviously meant more for movies and shows and that’s why Plexamp exists (which I don’t use).

Whenever I posted on /r/Plex on Reddit, people would comment that I should use another player, but that place is a cesspool with dedicated Plex haters; it’s so weird. Plex does function as a music player, it’s just a bit unfocused (design-wise) and bloated.

When I don’t want to boot up Plex I use mocp, a terminal-based music player, so I’m not in need of a fancy player like Deadbeef, Strawberry, Audacious, MediaMonkey, Musicbee, etc. but they do offer more to the user than Plex does.
