If you really need/want to, use foreign coverage of it. Maybe BBC or other English world wide news will have something (DW, 24France).

You will get mostly unbiased info and it is usually more chill than the heated debates. I use this sometimes but for my country it doesn’t cover much news.

I will be unemployed tomorrow. I don’t have plan for anything specific, I will probably just take my bike, put panniers on and explore Europe for some time.

I am fortunate enough that I have saved enough money for few years of this. But still I will apply to some university to finish some degree to look important (I don’t understand the fixation of most people to these letters before names).

What I mean by this is simply that you probably need to do something. It doesn’t have to be something that your family approves (my mom isn’t thrilled by what I want to do). Maybe move, try to find job elsewhere…

It depends on how you want to ride. Some just take credit card, stay in hotels and buy stuff as they need it.

As for the bikepacking you probably mean you need 2 things.

1. add rack or other mounting for your bags.

2. make it as comfortable as possible. Grips, saddle, pedals and adjust it to your liking. You may add some “horns” for more hand positions and stuff like that.

I would say that for shorter trips you just don’t need anything special. I helped my friends to go on bikepacking trip and one of them resorted to using backpack tied to rear rack by inner tube.

Yeah, it is little bit atypical stuff for CadeMedia. Guy just self funded 9 month trip, he isn’t some pro but still insane (250 km/day).

Done, I didn’t know about it and I was there for week this year.

There are few things to look for and it all depends on what bike you want.

• derailleurs and shifters: With friction shifting you can slap any derailleur on bike and it will work. Otherwise look at the brand, model and number of speeds, they can have different cable pull standard that isn’t in production.

• bottom bracket: It is mess of different standards but it shouldn’t be problem sourcing replacements.

• frame: Good steel frame will outlive all the other components, so look at the mounting points for them. Flat mount disc brakes or type of V brakes, BB diameter and type,…

• fork: Go for rigid fork if you want less things to worry about.

Basically look for all the parts, how to buy them, change them, if they require special tools…

Red dwarf learning drugs are real!

The wood chips have lots of surface area, when I soaked them in to cherry distillate for few days (to disinfect them before pitching), it made noticeable difference.

For beer and wine few weeks is enough with them. They are cheap, you can get different grades (toasted…) and some brews are quick.

I don’t mind, when I did my cider (~month ago) I made lots of posts too.

BTW did you try aging on wood chips? My cider came out amazing, it still needs some time in bottles but even now it is drinkable.

I’m really happy with Sqlab saddle, I don’t ride with padding and it wasn’t a problem on my bikepacking trips. Leather Brooks saddles are good option too but they need 1000km to “mold” to your butt.

No, I have “tubeless ready” everything but I didn’t bothered to try it. Guy in LBS said that with my mileage it is worth it.

I run on slightly lower pressure and I use it everyday. So I need to buy new tires after about 6 months. It is less hassle with replenishing sealant (you don’t have to do it, before it dries you have to change tires anyway).

I still think that for occasional rides it isn’t worth it, but for daily use bike or long tour it may be good option.

Also I would do it on touring bike only with the “pool noodle” rim protection. It slightly leaks pressure over time and with heavy bike I worry that some rock would mess up the wheels if I forget to pump it up.

I think that some things are more hassle than it is worth it on tour. I don’t have experience with kick stand (last time I had it when I was 10), but I always put my fenders off.

I was really surprised when I get from 40mm to 45mm tires how much it is different. As for tread it doesn’t really matter that much, light tread is enough for 99% of surfaces. (I use Panaracer gravelkings).

Last time I tried to use different kinds of yeasts that I can get from local wine making shop.

Now I mostly use some strain for aromatic wines. These in my opinion gives most the fruity flavors. Also the strain for fruit wines had good flavor.

Wine strains like to ferment cider dry, if you want sweeter cider ALE strains are better.

My international trips with bike were in Slovakia, Austria and Czech Republic at least somewhere it isn’t a problem.

Problem is ticketing, trying to find best deals or at least connections because loads of the companies refuse to communicate between themselves.
