  • At least compared to modern XIV, quite a lot? For example, 3/4 healers play very similarly, with their damage “rotations” being a single-target cast and an instant DoT. (This wouldn’t be such an issue if dealing damage wasn’t the majority of what healers spend their time doing with a competent party.)

There is no hard support role, some damage jobs just trade a little in raw damage for some utility. For example, while XIV’s Bard also buffs one’s party, it’s nowhere on the same scale.

It’s not necessarily the individual job diversities that I like most about XI, but the subjob system and being able to access rather specific builds as a result.

To be clear, XIV is still fun and has a lot of cool things about it, but this is one area that particularly peeves me.

  • There’s been a pretty wide range of responses, and while some boil down to that, I think the general trend is attachment and people fearing the result of some rw ‘scab’ taking over. Elkaki above’s comparison to an abusive relationship feels really on the mark.

Even without all that though, sometimes it’s genuinely hard for people to break habits; and many of these habits are years old. Doesn’t really come down to region or logic.
