  • Anything that doesn’t just funnel money back to millionaires. I’ve never understood people’s aversion to tax, especially when they should be focusing on the rigged two party system that is at the core of the wastage.

If I have to choose one, universal basic income, it solves a lot of problems. It can help people in need, but if you want to be selfish about it, at least it lowers the odds that someone will rob your house.

As for people worried about making sure it goes to the right people, I would rather pay a few scammers than risk having someone in genuine need suffer

  • I’ve worked in admin/IT at a courier company for almost 20 years and most of the time we resisted showing this, even though the technology was there. Driver’s almost always have multiple deliveries on board, and you cannot show a recipient the other locations a driver might have to stop at before the recipients location and when we provided the live tracking, this would constantly lead to complaints about when the customer perceived the arrival time should be. As delivery time predictions have improved, we are now more comfortable in showing this kind of tracking, as we can include a progress bar and ETA. However, personally I feel it’s outdated now, as we can send a notification, either when you’re the next drop or when we estimate the driver is X minutes away - I prefer that over watching a map.

  • Mostly just old age gets me now, but as a child I was known for being accident prone (also called poor decision making). My two crowning glories would have to be:

    1. Had a small toy basketball ring that I’d stuck to the full height windows in the lounge room. Stepped up on the window sill for the dunk (in socks) slipped and put my knee through the window - the glass only went in to my knee a few centimetres and I lucked out with only needing about 8 stitches.

    2. My brother and I wanted to see how far we could stretch an old tennis trainer, literally a heavy weight attached by elastic to a tennis ball, turns out it was quite far. My brother let go of the tennis ball when I wasn’t ready and it hit me square in the eye. That put me in hospital for a week or so with a detached retina, thankfully I was doing enough that it reattached itself, though wearing a patch for a few more weeks was not fun.
