  • About an hour before Iranian state TV first reported loud explosions in Tehran, pizza orders around the Pentagon went through the roof

there are “a multitude of fast food restaurants in the Pentagon complex, but no pizza places”

the account noted three hours later that a gay bar near the Pentagon had “abnormally low traffic for a Thursday night” and said this probably pointed to “a busy night at the Pentagon”.

    Just some truly incredible analysis.

Pizza and gay bar traffic tipping the hand of global events is the cyberpunk dystopia I was hoping for.

  • I’d heard it was over flyers in a car but I was hoping there was more to it than that. That’s a pretty flimsy threat to be capitulating to when we’re fighting murderous fascists, and sets a bad precedent.

I was not aware of how thin dem majorities were. That’s very important context, thank you.

  • a unique quality to the feeling of it’s drive

I have to admit I’m skeptical, and not just because it sounds written by a marketing team.

Things like the subjective feeling of something are strongly socially determined. When we’re told something is fancy or high quality we have a different and better experience of that thing.

As humans it’s rarely possible to separate our experience of a thing from our judgements of the people and identities we associate with it.

  • Sure, these fascists have spent 5 years delegitimizing accusations of electoral fraud and are openly committed to ending democracy.

But so far the only actual evidence of ‘election stealing’ is openly buying votes in direct violation of the law, illegal campaigns tactics sometimes resulting in charges, illegal coordination with PACs, systemic campaign finance violations, direct coordination with at least Israeli and Russian leaders to influence the election, decades of foreign disinformation operations pushing for exactly this outcome and a huge influx of dark money from anonymous plutocrats.

Just not direct voting machine manipulation.

  • Securing the resources to spend on communal projects that benefit the state is one of the many reasons that state employs violence against its citizens, yep.

Roads are a great example because across the world, major road projects were always built to speed up the military getting to and putting down rebellious provinces - bearing arms against their subjects.

All states are instruments of violence, that’s their sole function. Anything they do that makes our lives easier is just the velvet glove over that iron fist. It’s easy to pretend otherwise when the state hasn’t turned its violence on you yet.
