  • Ah, yes, that infamous barrel. Claims many a hedgehog’s life due to timing out. I did actually manage once or twice as a kid to get under it through fast and clever jumping, until I only learned in adulthood that you’re supposed to move the D-pad up and down to control it. Really doesn’t help that the game doesn’t show you before how to control a barrel like that, and that stage can push players to the edge of danger timewise with or without that barrel.

  • I know a lot of people here are/will be mad at Musk simply for personal political disagreement, but even just putting that aside, I’ve never liked the idea of self-driving cars. There’s just too much that can go wrong too easily, and in a 1-ton piece of metal and glass moving at speeds up to near 100 mph, you need to be able to have the control enough to respond within a few seconds if the unexpected happens, like a deer jumping in the middle of the road. Computers don’t, and may never, have the benefit of contextual awareness to make the right decision as often as a human would in those situations. I’m not going to cheer for the downfall of Musk or Tesla as a whole, but they do severely need to reconsider this idea or else there will be a lot of people hurt and/or killed and a lot of liability on them when it happens. That’s a lot of risk to take on for a smaller auto maker like them, just thinking in business terms.

  • Competitive Pokémon tends to go back and forth between times of “stall” (turtling) and hyper-offense (aggression) dominating the metagame, depending on which strategies and team builds players will find. Whenever one becomes dominant, fans of the other will constantly hound tournament runners to change tiering or ban certain pokemon to change it.

As for a “fun” game to go hyper-aggressive with zero HP, max damage, I’ve seen some YouTubers attempt “Danger Mario” runs in the first two Paper Mario games, maximizing FP and BP and never taking HP when leveling, keeping Mario in the “danger” zone where lots of evasion or damage badges will stay activated. They then rely on those badges, items and partner abilities to avoid taking damage.

  • As a Minnesota sports fan who’s seen more BS calls than necessary screw our teams, and especially after the Lynx got so blatantly screwed by officials last weekend in favor of yet another big-market team, it’s hard not to believe at least some officiating inconsistency is league-ordered in many leagues to benefit markets they want to grow or don’t want to piss off.

  • I don’t know how “bleeding edge” it is, but Nobara is a good gaming distro maintained by GloriousEggroll (the maker of the GE versions of Proton on Steam) that also has a GUI driver manager. It’s based on Fedora, so you’re not gonna have the absolute latest stuff 100% right now as you might with Arch, but it will likely be ahead of anything Debian or Ubuntu based. The one drawback in my short experience with it so far is that the package manager sucks for exploring stuff or locating packages if you don’t know the package name, it’s just an alphabetical list you search through by name.

But as has been said elsewhere in this thread, if you’re having driver issues with new Nvidia stuff, you may just be SOL until the Nvidia driver support in general catches up, no matter the distro.

Within console generations, change has indeed always tended to be gradual, but I think the point here is that we’re talking about the step up to the next console generation, for which the visual difference in graphical power used to be very large, you could do a lot more on the newer console than the older one, but has become more gradual over time. Many already didn’t see the need to upgrade to the new Playstation or Xbox from the PS4 or Xbox One, and a lot of their libraries were backported to the older consoles (granted, the consoles dropped during Covid so scarcity played a part in that but even after production picked back up they’re not doing as well overall). The only console that could still likely make a big visual leap to a new generation any time soon is the Switch to the Switch 2, and we still don’t have confirmation on whether Nintendo is even planning on such an upgrade. Just like the Wii, it sold like crazy while still being the least powerful in the generation because it had a knockout combination of utility and quality games. On the other hand, it is showing its age now, so if Nintendo doesn’t make that upgrade who knows if the fans will continue to support it.

  • Heck, any new Shinobi game would be cool, whether brand new or old one remastered. I don’t really recall Sega doing much with Shinobi in 3D, and it’s been a long time since the ones on the GameCube/PS2 generation came out (which are the last ones I can think of). Heck, the latest Ninja Gaiden was 10 years ago or more. Either of those franchises could really use another entry. Ninja Gaiden would also be another good ninja-based franchise for a movie.

  • I’m sure we remember not too long ago when rather than go with what the sponsors, advertisers, etc wanted and rein that shit in, they loosened the rules and Twitch essentially became a straight up porn site for two days. And it was already bad before then. It’s probably only the plausible deniability preventing them from going back to loosening the rules and raking in the camgirl money. Disappointing but absolutely not surprising that Twitch would probably make more money from that than from the ads, sponsorships and so on they get now.
