currently working on book 28 of 40 for the year
Getting married in 2 days!!
AAAAAAAAAAA
I’m excited and stressed at the same time. It’s been such a ride and the day hasn’t even happened yet. Idk if I’ll be happier during or when it’s finally done. Either way, definitely looking forward to both the wedding day and to decompressing afterwards
congrats on the wedding!
Thank you!
Congrats! My wedding day was a blur. I remember the ceremony as a special little bubble and the rest as a bunch of noise and colours lol. I was so exhausted by the end of it.
I have some one of a kind family pictures out of it, and it was an invaluable reference point for getting to know (albeit briefly) a lot of people from my partner’s past.
I hyped you have a great day and subsequent relationship. :)
Congratulations to you and your spouse! If you’re doing a honeymoon after (or even if you’re not), I hope you both get some quality R&R!
It’s going very well, I discovered Lemmy and the rest of the fediverse and am once again excited for the future of technology!
I think my body has not been dealing with stress well recently. It’s reacting in weird ways that are new to me.
I’ve been taking small wins as they come! I just need to hang on for another month and a bit and then I get to take some vacation time.
weird ways that are new to me.
Like what?

So I needed new bike rear rack and before I checked out I searched what can I add to have free shipping/postage.
So as grown up, reasonable man I would like to announce that from today I am proud owner of unicycle.
It will be some time before I get hang of it but my family with words of courage like “it will be fing awesome" or “buy it, it will be fun to have” or " everyone has to buy some stupid st sometimes” make me believe that I will learn it.
Otherwise nothing new.
Ha! Enjoy it! Sounds like it’ll be fun!
For now I have all teeth and no broken bones.
About difficulty of learning it, it is little bit harder than in-line skates. So I may learn it in few days/weeks.
Key is learn to lean in it and don’t catch it when you are falling.
Lonesome, been a bit moody. I’m not sure why. My best guess is that my work schedule is fucked this week and it’s made it harder to do food prep. Maybe I’m not eating as good.
Made a friend at work but now I’m feeling a little hesitant. I could tell they were a few years younger than me, but I checked their Discord bio and they’re 19. They invited me to join their D&D group and they’re all 19. The thought of being the oldest person at the table by 11 years and needing to be taught how to play is embarrassing. My best friend is ~15 years older than me and now I wonder if I ever make her feel like a grandma.
Other than that it’s all good. Chasing time due to work, but getting to the gym when I can. Getting some much needed work done around the house. I’m hoping getting the table cleared off and the craft supplies organized will get the creative juices flowing again.
The older I get, the more range in age of friends I have. I have friends in their 70s and in their 20s at this point. And you definitely shouldn’t feel embarrassed about learning something new when you’re older. How boring would it be to only know the same things we did when we were 20 for the rest of our lives?
No matter their age, if they’re good people they’ll be excited to teach you. Making friends definitely gets a bit weird as we get older, but I think there’s a lot of value in being able to relate to and appreciate people in different age groups. I hope if you end up going that you have a great time!
Diversity: it’s good for everybody! Also, it’s wise to get used to being taught new things by younger people, lest we become stuck in the past *shudders*.
That’s true!
Agreeing with the others, that kind of age difference is most awkward when you’re younger (like yourself), but goes away as you make more friends from hobbies and work, rather than school (which is more tied to certain ages ofc).
In reality, if you gel with them, and you don’t feel like you’re taking advantage, then all’s well. Maybe you’ll be the start of a “grey wave” (hehe) of older friends in this circle.
I’m on my first book for the summer. A friend inspired me to get back into reading, and I forgot how fun it can be. c:
But the big news is summer break from uni ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
It felt like two years in one. So much has happened, both good and bad, but right now I get to finally, finally decompress.
(But honestly, two days into this break and I got restless.)
I’m looking for work. Got laid off from my student job due to remote work budget cuts. It was a bummer, but I’m not too worried about getting a job for the summer.
I’m also studying for this startup project I’m volunteering with. The other designer left and uh, now I have the chance to be the design lead. For now I’ll take small steps because that is not a role I want to mess up. XD
Then there are my two clubs I need to meet up with throughout the summer.
In regards to more stereotypical summer fun stuff, I’ll be going to an anime convention with some friends in a couple months. It’ll be my first convention! Plus I get to meet a friend I haven’t seen in about five years.
And I might be going on an LA trip in August! ⌯’▾’⌯ We might be touring the Winchester Mystery House as well.
the winchester mystery house is so cool! i took the tour many years ago when i was a kid. the tiny little steps were my favorite.
Congrats on the start of your summer, sounds like it’ll be a good one despite the layoff (which seem to be getting to feel about as common as bad weather…)
Congrats on picking up reading for pleasure! It took me many years after college to get back into it myself, but it is such a wonderful habit
It’s going pretty well! I’m recovering from a surgery I had last month, and recovery has been slow going. I’ve wanted a kayak for years, and as a treat for getting through this I picked up my brand new sit-in this evening. I can’t wait to be able to take it out!
that’s a lot of books!!!
i was meant to go camping and biking on the new river trail in virginia this past weekend, but it looked like it was probably going to rain a lot of the time, so i stayed home. friday we went to a friend’s jam party. i went in the house to use the toilet, and every dog ran at me barking. one nipped me pretty bad in the thigh, but i can’t blame the dog since i didn’t have an escort with me and kinda assumed it would be okay to pop in and use the bathroom, oops.
saturday was a lazy day, which i haven’t had in a really long time. we ended up staying in and watching the first few episodes of fallout. didn’t want to be out late anywho because i did end up making plans for sunday…
rode the train to the next town over (about a 30 minute ride) on sunday morning, then biked back for a good 50 miles! still felt pretty good by the end of it, which is a good sign for the impending ~430 mile ride at the end of july. i’ve nearly biked more this year to date than i did all of last year. 😅
we went and saw the new apes movie (kingdom of the planet of the apes), and it was by far better than all the first three combined. more likable characters, better writing, and better acting. to be fair, i went in with very low expectations, but i think you could skip the first three, just watch this one, and it would be a decent movie.
not much in dog news. i did have a private lesson with a new trainer, and she was great! she sent me a detailed list of homework until i book with her again. :)
edit: also just got asked to speak at the local bike shop about bike camping next month!
Just got back from EDC, which is the biggest EDM festival in the states. They had so much more DnB this year! I normally am fairly proud of the amount of exercise I get in, but I’m pretty sure I went even harder this year than any previous one. On one of the three days my watch said I spent 4.5 hours of the day with my heart rate in the fat burning zone and 7.5 hours in the cardio zone, netting me 7700 calories burned 😂 I averaged around 4 hours of sleep a night and about 1 meal a day so my body is definitely in recovery mode right now, hoping to get a solid night of sleep now that I’m home and hopefully the change of weather and scenery will help clear up the asthma. But I’m definitely feeling very grateful and fulfilled right now 🥰
It’s only Monday, and I’m TIRED. Three weeks of school left, and the kids are wackadoodle.
Hang in there! I’m a teacher and we just had our last day yesterday. Summer break is right around the corner!
Thanks for the encouragement!
We’ve got six weeks, but this week’s a long weekend and next week’s also a long weekend. I feel with you. Good luck
Same to you!
I finally passed the checks for the job that I got offered 11mo ago. So now they’re asking when I can start!
Which, right now, is like the worst time for me to leave my company. We have our big all-hands-on-deck event in like 5 weeks. I have a massive project I’m leading up that’s supposed to be finished by end of July. And there’s another project I’m assisting with heavily that’s supposed to be finished by July/August. Even a couple months ago would’ve been better, to an extent.
While I’m usually one who’s like “Welp, gotta go peace, here’s my two weeks!”, the organization I work for has treated me excellently over the years; about 17 of them. And the big project I’m working on is something that I specifically got invited back to the company to work on a few years ago. So I want to see it to completion (or as far as I can take it within reason). As far as the event, we are literally in the thick of it with preparation, so I don’t want to unload all my tasks, last minute, on my team either. Lastly, my boss knows I’ve had this offer on deck for awhile now and he’s been very cool with it. I don’t want to burn this bridge (I’ve burned others elsewhere before). Because if this new job doesn’t work out, there’d be a very, very high chance that all I’d have to do is ask and my boss would say, “OK, when do you want to start?”
So I’m thinking I don’t start til late August, which my boss is very appreciative of. Plus that gives me time to find an apartment and move. I’m hoping my new soon-to-be employer will agree to that, especially given my circumstances, and that they’ve had me waiting for this long. I feel like that’s only fair. I also have a friend who works closely with the team I’ll be on; he says the team is probably not even ready for me anyway.
Either way, it’s exciting. But also a bit scary, as I’ve never moved for a job, and I’ll leaving a city I’ve spent practically my entire life at. I’ll also be even further from my family than I already am. But I’m ready to go. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, and it’s finally happening.
Congrats! Hopefully your next boss realizes the delay you’re asking for is a small price to pay for hiring someone who cares.
I still can’t leave Reddit because its niche topics are too helpful, like /r/NoContract, where I did a bunch o’ research on no-contract GSM carriers and as a result decided to flipflop between Mint Mobile, US Mobile, and T-Mobile’s independent hotspot. I guess I ought to find a Lemmy instance that allows unrestricted creation of infinite communities, but am not sure of where to start.
I’m also still unsure about moving to Linux because of the loss of Windows-only programs like Cakewalk and AutoHotkey, even though Microsoft is worsening exponentially. For the latter, at least, I’d really need to buckle down and sink an hour or two into getting Python’s
keyboard
module to work.I know it’s not the same for sure, but I do highly recommend giving Ardour a shot if you have a spare computer that you can play with Linux on (or I think you can get it for Windows but it’s not as simple as Linux.) I’m not sure what your use case for Cakewalk is, but I know for mine (straightforward recording and mixing) it works great!
Interesting, thanks!
Ended up at this awesome little karaoke spot that isn’t even on Google maps tonight and had a blast. I really hope I manage to follow through with going back soon.

How can you read so much 💀 I’m envious! Does comics count?
