Your citizens also have needs which, when met, allow you to upgrade your buildings like the Anno games. Imo it’s better than Banished. Maybe not right now, but for sure when it’s fully developed.

Yes, it definitely has some similarities but you also get crop rotation, free building placement, diplomacy, military.
