What the fuck.

My Reddit account would be 4 years old next week, but for some unknown reason I got permanently banned.

I genuinely don’t understand why, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is part of the enshittification of Reddit Inc. I’ve never posted anything hateful or doxxed someone. Just mainly discussed Dutch football matches. That’s it. I don’t think discussing football breaks Reddit rules, right?

I guess I’m disappointed, because a lot of great, niche communities exist on Reddit which don’t exist on Lemmy yet, so I now have nowhere to discuss some of my hobbies with random strangers on the internet.

Fuck Reddit and their shitty policy.

My daughter basically only looked at cat pics, and got randomly banned for “not being over 13”; she’s 16… she offered to send a copy of her ID and they didn’t care.

I mean it says it was because of what you posted on your other accounts. What did you post on your other accounts?

Nothing. My other account was only for lurking and I didn’t post anything; no comments, no posts, nothing.

I only post / comment on my main, but that’s now no longer possible lol.

But for some unknown reason I got permanently banned.

Not saying this like it’s your fault. Just my theory. The message says you have ACCOUNTS plural.

Did you have more then one reddit account that you used ? Reddit doesn’t have a built in feature in the user settings SHOWING US WHICH COMMUNITIES WE ARE BANNED FROM.

    So.

If you have more then one account, you can post and comment on the communities that you are banned from on your other account. Because there’s no list you can check to see if you are banned.

You could end up commenting from your other account on a sub your main account is banned from and that is called ‘Ban evasion’ and consequences for that is permanently banning all your accounts.

To me it looks like they probably have all our accounts synced up and a list of our banned communities to keep tabs. And they make sure we don’t know so well forget and Ban evade on accident.

It’s a sound theory, however I am not banned from any subreddit as far as I’m aware of, so ban evasion can’t have been the reason.

Although, as I mentioned in another comment, I have another account, but that’s mainly used for my nsfw stuff.

I got permabanned for suggesting we should eat rich people too many times. Worth it, no regrets.

Was there nothing in your inbox like the screenshot suggests?

I don’t know if it would be something like ban evasion by acknowledging you have multiple accounts or even using a VPN with their crackdown on that.

I don’t use a VPN for Reddit and while I have another account, it’s not for ban evasion, but rather to have my nsfw activity separate from my personal account.

No fucking idea what’s happened here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Reddit decided to use AI or some shit to regulate the rules, resulting in random bans.

Knowing them it has something to do with your nsfw account. Remember they don’t make money from nsfw communities as part of their public filing.

I got the same thing 9 days ago!

My work computer was changed that day to a dynamic IP and then boom, when I logged in I was banned!

Of course my appeal was denied.

Got banned for making racist comments. Only the comments weren’t racist. Didn’t even touch on race. Ask any question about it and the mod just does the 28 day mute.

Okay, so if there’s nowhere to discuss your niche interests, why don’t you start a community and discuss your niche interests and tell other people about them so that you can start the community here.

Not OP, but just chiming in to say that I think most people are tired of hearing this. The “just make a new community” thing is repeated often in threads like this, and I feel like it’s a bit tone-deaf to people’s true complaints, which is that they just want an easy place to chat that doesn’t require being an unpaid janitor. Yes, it’s easy to create a community on Lemmy. But not everybody wants to run a community. There’s a lot of responsibility involved beyond just registering the page on your instance of choice, and that’s a daunting task for most people who just want a place to talk about their interests without having to be responsible for keeping the peace on top of it.

Building a community of users is the biggest hurdle at the start - there are communities on Lemmy for most of my interests. But they’re almost all totally empty! I don’t have the time to gather people from other sites, or any content of my own to share. I have a job already lol
