What I’m hoping (beyond expectations) is that Microsoft would make the OS something which could be installed on other devices. Their hardware was good, Duo 2 resolved the major complaints about the Duo, but at the volume they were shipping devices it wasn’t a profitable endeavor. There are efforts to put Vanilla Android on the Duo 2 and I’d love to see the Duo OS brought to the Pixel Fold or other foldable device, especially with wider screens rather than the tall devices like the Samsung Z Folds.
Yes, I think that would be awesome. Maybe bundled with the Microsoft launcher or something? I don’t know. But yeah, I love the interface customizations Microsoft put on the Duo, and I would love to be able to install it on my next phone.
But Microsoft really did have something special with the Surface Duo, and it’s a shame that it’s now ending the way it is.
