I remember in MH Tri that you would get a “level” of some elemental resistance for each 5 points of that elemental resistance on armour pieces. Like, 4 points would give you no benefit at all, but 5 points would give you low elemental resistance, 10 points mid, and 15 points high (or something like that). So little me thought I would have a little bit of everything, having a couple of points in each resistance, and I only much later found out I actually had no benefit at all. So my question is: do the points/resistances work in the same way in MHW too, or does each point count? I searched the internet but surprisingly did not find an answer.
Each point will decrease the damage you receive from that element by 0.5%
When the stat reaches 20 or higher, you will be immune to that element’s “blight”
Is there anything special about other numbers, like 10? Asking because I just got 10 fire resistance and it seems like the numbers changed colour to a yellowish colour, am I imagining things?
It’s been a while since I played MHW, but If I recall correctly, you don’t see any numbers on yourself when damaged. You should only see numbers when damaging monsters. The different coloured text on the numbers would just indicate what “type” of damage you’re doing.
White should basically mean “neutral” (not hitting weak points, but not doing reduced damage)
Orange would just indicate that you’re doing increased damage by hitting weak points with weapons or elements that the monster is weak to.
White numbers outlined in blue is a “negative affinity” so you’re doing less than normal damage.
As I mentioned before, there are no specific tiers or milestones on resistances 5/10/15. It works like a gradient, so the higher the number, the better defended you’ll be. 20 is the only amount that comes with a unique effect.
I meant the resistance number on my armor, it’s now 10, and it looks yellowish. But you answered:

Thanks!
I see what you mean now. Sorry about that.
The different coloured text might be an indicator that you’re getting an artificial increase to your resistance (i.e., canteen food buffs or decorations) instead of naturally from the armour set.
Your type of thinking was very common with new hunters, especially on skills. I think it was probably the biggest factor in the rework of the activation system for world/rise. So, yeah, there are no thresholds to meet anymore. If you slot 1 level of anything, you will see a benefit, just maybe not worth it until you get more for certain skills.
