As the title says I’m curious if my peers love or loathe driving?
I’ve been able to drive for a few years but never really needed to until I got a job which is 45 miles away.
I absolutely love it and I can’t explain why. It’s quite cathartic, there lots of stimulation and it’s fun to watch all the other cars.
I get to drive through lots of poor traffic jams then on to country roads with lots of cows to shout good morning to.
My friends said I’d get bored of it eventually, spoiler: they’re never right, yet I’ve been doing 500 miles a week for a few months and it’s still so much fun. I don’t care about the weather or the traffic I just like being in the car.
I hate it. I’m a good driver, but it just stresses me out. Having all the adrenaline firing to pay attention is exhausting.
Add to that all the people on the road that do not give a shit about anyones safety, and I would sell my car tomorrow, if our public transport wasn’t so bad.
That sucks that you don’t enjoy it and that public transport is a no go. I am blessed that all my life I’ve had access to amazing public transport.
Had it not been for a new job I’d probably never have realised how much I liked to drive.
Yup. The average road user is very selfish, but I like to exercise positive intent and people may have reasons for doing stupid stuff (within reason).
I hate it. I’m not a good driver, I know this, but I swear, I am definitely an above-average one. The amount of unsafe behavior I see every time I’m behind the wheel, on top of the stress of navigating a dangerous piece of heavy machinery myself, is incredible stressful; and the mechanics of driving, specifically all the eye movement combined with holding my feet still while making sure my attention doesn’t wander, is very fatiguing.
I can’t stand it. It’s exhausting. I prefer taking the train. Audiobook on and away we go.
I hate driving. I’m not good at it, and it’s either really boring or really stressful. I’ve been in two crashes (neither were my fault) and I just wish so badly that I had good public transit options. I am actually planning to move to another country not only for the public transit, but that is one big reason.
Driving is my jam. I drove my dads car once all the way from east Greece to the Netherlands (2300 km) (it was still there and he was sick) and I regularly go to Switzerland or Italy to vacation (1000, 1200 km), and this summer I’m driving to Norway. Time really flies while driving and somehow I have such a good time. It’s really part of the vacation lol.
This is what I can relate too. It’s just fun for us I guess.
I used to drive a lot, and other than traffic, I enjoyed it, especially when I had a fun little manual. I live in the middle of a city with decent public transportation now, and with all the traffic, driving is only enjoyable if I’m leaving the city. I no longer even own a car, so when I do drive, it’s an unfamiliar vehicle and unfamiliar roads, so the first few hours are pretty stressful. I’ve been considering owning a car again, but I’m fantasizing that full self driving will be a thing by then. Lol.
Yeah I can imagine it’s stressful in different cars.
I was stressed at first as I needed to know what all the buttons did and what everything meant. Like some people are happy not knowing but I found it strange how you can get a car and drive away without knowing how to turn on the lights for instance.
On the FSD cars, I used to think it would happen but I don’t anymore. For that we would have to have no humans driving at all and I don’t see how it happens.

I find it quite relaxing, other than on long motorways, which I find really hard to keep focus on
I’m indifferent. It’s kinda boring to me, especially if the drive is longer than 30 minutes.
I think mine is just right for me. It takes me between 65 and 80 minutes.
Ive been driving for about 17 years, and I hate everything about it. Cars in general are a sore spot for me.
That said I’ve made the drive from Toronto to Halifax (~1800km) several times, and it’s a comforting trip for me. Road Trips feel different than your usual day-to-day driving.
I enjoy driving but I really enjoy riding my motorcycle. All my senses are firing and make me feel alive.
I have been driving for 41 years and I love it. I enjoy my morning commute, my drive home in the evening and getting out on weekends and holidays in the car or on my motorcycle.
It feels cathartic and meditative.
None of my family feel the same way and don’t understand why I love it so much. I can’t explain it to people who don’t get it. I’ve tried several times over the years and have just come to accept that it’s my thing.
Every now and then you come across someone else who gets it, and you barely need to speak about it. The only other thing that makes me feel the same way is long distance target shooting.
You’re right it is hard to explain to it to other people.
I am guessing here but for me I think it’s the constant stimulation that I enjoy, when at work as a software developer I rarely take my phone out of the drawer because I am sufficiently stimulated, but when at home even when partaking in my hobbies I can get distracted and my mind wonders. Whereas in a car there is so much stimulation and stuff to concentrate on that it actually allows my mind to relax as my thoughts can’t wonder off.
I like to try and predicate what other cars will do, like micro adjustments from them sometimes tell me that hey this dudes going to merge in front of me and lo and behold they do.
I do enjoy it, mostly when I’m listening to my music

Not the one you replied to but: depends on my mood, and yes, short time swings from classical music (man I love Italian renaissance Lute music) to hardcore punk and metalcore in just a matter of a few songs XD
I’ll give some lute music a go. I’m more of a melancholy guy, anything in a Minor Key and Piano is the best.
Also, have wildly different tasks. Love me some SOAD and UK Drill.
I tolerate driving but don’t dislike it for shorter trips. Anything past 90ish minutes just becomes painful, both figuratively and literally
I love driving, but get so angry about how others drive.
Driving has not yet lost it’s novelty for me, I love every bit of it. I work at the office twice a week, and my drive is about 2/3 country road, so generally great as far as drives can go.
