I checked the five last posts. There is nothing here but hating on religion. Sad that jerking off to ones own superiority is all that Atheism has to offer.

I just reviewed the 5 posts immediately before yours… not one of them expressed hate, but yours did. You should reflect on that.

It’s funny how religious zealots are so easy to spot. You know? Because all atheists refer to themselves as “jerking off to my own superiority”

Probably just seeing logical arguments as an attack on their faith. News flash, they are, dumbass.

Just like God isn’t the someone I look to for weather predictions because THATS DUMB, I use science to judge it instead.

I could see pretty easily how someone who prayed for rain on the regular might see that as an attack, it’s just that praying for rain is actually dumb as in you don’t have to think about anything to do it. That doesn’t mean I’m attacking people who do it, I am attacking the idea. But don’t misconstrue this to be hate speech just because I don’t want to believe in fairy tales about when it’s going to rain.

There is a big difference to being an atheist in a very secular society. It is nothing special and not a major part of your life or identity.

These type of atheists do not need to seek online spaces as there is noting to discuss or much of a need to vent or find people who think as you do.

I am in this group, am not subscribed here and came across your post in /new. I assume you are as well.

Then there are the people who are atheists in very religious communities or societies. They often have few or no people in their lives they can talik to about the issues they face having to hide their lack of belief for it can be very damaging to them, physical, socially and mentally if they are public about it.

These are the people who are more likely to inhabit atheist online spaces.

They need a place to honestly vent about the hypocrisy they see around them.

They need a place to be honest about their lack of belief.

They need a place to find those that think as they do.

So, basically, no, in my opinion this is not a hate space.

Sad that jerking off to ones own superiority is all that Atheism has to offer.

This is also your first post here, so I see it as you feeling superior to the other posters and talking down to them while you have contributed nothing to the community prior to this.

So, prove me wrong and post something to prove what Atheism has to offer…

You’re right, but you’re missing half the picture. Yeah, half the people on a sub like this are living under oppression from large religions and have misguidedly projected the role of oppressor onto pagans, wiccans, and other religious minorities. But the other half are attracted to communities like this because they want to feel special. They want to be enlightened and to laugh at their perceived lessers who have not attained the truths of reason. Most of those guys are straight white teenage boys with no legitimate authorities to rail against. If they had any sense of proportion they’d rail against capitalism, but internet brainrot has convinced them that theism (as opposed to doctrine) is a legitimate problem.

How many people died due to religious hate just in the past few months? But I guess some feeling hurt but going to a sub you could easily avoid if it upsets you so must be worse.

You’re clearly trying to start an argument, so don’t let me get in your way.

But most atheists don’t talk about being atheist, just like most people who don’t believe in the simulation don’t spend all their time talking about the simulation.

Atheist memes, are therapy for people who are toying with the idea of being atheist, or have just become atheist, and want to socialize it, and are looking for approval.

Funnily enough I have to admit that I skimmed over the answers and just went “yeah seems about right”, but at second glance it turned out that there are actually quite a few interesting posts. You also make a good point. Thanks for taking your time to write it down.

I don’t think you will find anything that isn’t hate or toxic in most atheist communities. I’ve been an atheist for my most than half of my life and I just don’t engage because most of the time, there isn’t an interest in having a philosophical debate of some kind, but to self validate and feel they are somehow better than people that have a religion.

Additionally, there are many atheist groups that participated heavily in things like gamergate or walk very closely with alt-right groups.

I recommend giving this a read.

What the fuck are you even talking about???

Far right groups are practically all conservative religious groups. Religion is where lies the foundation of their values. These alt right are even gaining support from Muslim communities in issues like drag queens reading stories to kids or trans issues.

I wouldn’t bother, their link is to a religious blog.

They are desperate to blame anyone but themselves.

It does seem logical to think like this at first and I would agree with you, but it did happen. For example, you have this number of YT channels that would often talk about atheism starting talking about how feminist women were, complaining about LGBT people and such. Maybe because they got too familiar with libertarian ideals and ended up going conservative.

I am just pointing out that this is something that exists and it is something talked about. I am an atheist and leftist but I think it is a mistake to automatically label atheism as something strictly progressive as if your way of engaging with atheism is through hate and without empathy one can easily go through a dangerous path.

      100% correct

Also worth noting is that most of these “atheists” are still trapped within the Roman Christian worldview and its tropes and memes. Go ahead and try to find one with a grounding in eastern, indigenous, african, or pre-greco-roman philosophy. They may not believe in “God”, but they’re still Christians in every other regard.
