The United Arab Emirates on Sunday described attacks carried out by Palestinian Islamist faction Hamas against Israeli towns as a “serious and grave escalation.”

The UAE foreign ministry in a statement also said it was “appalled” by reports Israeli civilians were taken as hostages from their homes.

“Civilians on both sides must always have full protection under international humanitarian law and must never be a target of conflict,” the ministry added.

The UAE became the first Gulf country to normalise relations with Israel in 2020, breaking with decades of Arab policy toward the Palestinian cause.

The ignorance of this sentiment is just so depressing. All these politicians and dictators want is to go back to the status quo last week of Palestinians literally starving and Palestinians dying every week out of their sight. The humanitarian catastrophe of Gaza is normalized to them. Palestinians didn’t just wake up on Saturday deciding they hated Israel; the attack was in response to Israeli settler extremists raiding Al Aqsa and backed by the Israeli military.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The first step to keep this from happening again is to dismantle the apartheid state.

UAE has shown they don’t care about apartheid. The dictators want Israeli money and weapons and we’re willing to sell out Palestinians and ignore them for their own selfish ends.

And yes, ending apartheid is the only way to have a lasting peace. South Africa was embroiled in waves of violence like this until black people got their rights; and support for terrorism fell overnight.
