Part Seven: Dreams and Madness
Next week is the season finale, let’s discuss the penultimate episode of the season.
Ahsoka has been pretty solid, but it’s going to suck next week when it inevitably ends on the cliffhanger of Thrawn arriving back to our home galaxy and we have to wait who knows how long for more…
As a cliffhanger in the overall story of the galaxy, it’s going to be excellent.
As a cliffhanger to Ahsoka it’s going to be a huge let down.
I like the world building that is happening, I like the pieces that are moving around, but as an individual part this season is just filler. Maybe it makes sense because, with the plan being a movie, you need to be able to summarize a whole season in 1-2 sentences, but it feels like a waste.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what I’m watching. However if someone asked “Should I watch Ahsoka?” I’d have to say, “Maybe, it requires a lot of context and I’m not sure where it’s heading.”
Compare that to Mando, it took 1 episode to make it clear where we’re going. Compare to Andor, it took 3 episodes (which Disney released all at once), but it was clear where we’re going. Even the Kenobi series made it clear after 1 episode what was going to happen.
I am so excited to see the giant hyperspace ring connect to the Chimaera.
That’s pretty much what this entire series has been building towards.
I’m absolutely here for it. Hopefully we get a 12 minute “startrek tmp” style fly-by.
So much positive about this episode.
- Ezra learning about the original trilogy.
- Great fights all around.
- Thrawn being excellent Thrawn.
- C3PO and angry Chopper.
My only complaint is that unless the next episode is 3 hours long this entire season has just been a set up for future seasons.
Post Mando season 2 we really just need, “Star Wars: Mando Wars” where we can follow anyone in the universe for a week, basically like Clone Wars did. A small arc here, a small arc there. 20+ episodes a season, people meet up when they meet up.
Lots to like in that episode but boy did it feel like filler as there never felt to be any threat to any of the characters good or bad during the episode.
For example, who the fuck allows the villain to run off when they were straight up trying to murder you and your friends when you have a three on one advantage? I get that they hinting at Shin turning but at least give her some cover from the departing gunships as her escape route.
I found Ezra’s new found love of Skyrim’s two handed tank build cringey. Other peoples mileage will vary on this but it just wasn’t the level it needed to be compared to any modern martial arts film, just clumsy force clubbing and force pushing.
Really glad they went with C3P0 rather than uncanny valley CGI Leia for the Court Room scene, nice to seem him again and less crap CGI faces the better.
Shin didn’t need cover because they were legitimately trying to help her. Yes, they could have captured her and made friends that way, but the Force works in mysterious ways so this method is fine.
