It has been 6 editions of the game since I’ve played, but some local players have been making encouraging noises. What does everybody think? Is it the best thing since sliced bread? Is it the end of the hobby as we know it?

It’s definitely a departure from 9th. Lethality is way down, multimeltas don’t cut it for taking on 10th armor (Sororitas player). Feels like some of the more fleshed out factions may have a better time of the edition.

Also, what the heck is up with Death Guard? 4 inch movement on terminators is laughably bad.

I heard that Strands of Fate has also been nerfed already (I haven’t looked into it yet). I’m sure that a) the rough edges will get polished off soon enough and b) the indexes will end up being the Playschool versions of the eventual lists. Codex creep is a central component of GW’s marketing strategy, after all.

Yeah, I definitely feel like things will get better once all the codexes are out, but the indexes are a little rough. They nerfed indirect via points, as well as that obscenely undercoated Wraithknight, so at least they’re working relatively quickly on keeping things balanced.
