Not even clever, smart and he manages to get away with everything from trying to bribe/strong arm Ukraine to stealing classified documents, to freaking breaking campaign violations to keep someone quiet.

I know the basic answer is “because he’s a cult leader,” but it’s still hard for me to comprehend that kind of mindset.
