Thought I would share some of the recommended quit lit and resources out there. This is not exhaustive - feel free to share any that worked for you!
- This Naked Mind, Annie Grace
- Alcohol Explained, William Porter
- Quit Like a Woman, Holly Whitaker
- Numerous books by Allen Carr
Huberman Labs Podcast: https://hubermanlab.com/what-alcohol-does-to-your-body-brain-health/
Good list!
I read The Naked Mind. It was really good and I feel it helped me gain a new perspective.
I loved that book and Alcohol Explained too… a bit more scientific. Understanding how it fucks up your brain chemistry and perpetuates the drinking cycle itself was mind-blowing.
Getting sober really showed me how much of my depression was self inflicted
Recovery Elevator podcast. Listening to other folks share their experiences gave me perspective for my own journey.
Currently reading “Alcohol Lied to Me” by Craig Beck after finishing Naked Mind.
- “The Unexpected Joy of being Sober” and “Sunshine Warm Sober” by Catherine Gray.
- “Drinking: A Love Story” by Caroline Knapp
- “Tired of thinking About Drinking” by Belle Robertson
My partner bought me “the unexpected joys of being sober”, but you, and a couple of days of sobriety, have finally convinced me to read it. In the chapter listing I see there’s some references to nightclubs, which really isn’t me, so I hope I can still relate to it.
i want to mention “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts” by Dr. Gabor Mate. Not about alcohol specifically but really helped me to understand addiction. I call this and “This Naked Mind” my Big Book.
Thanks
I strongly concur with these recommendations! I haven’t read Quit like a woman (on account of being a dude), but I’m sure it’s good.
