I’ve freaked myself out somewhat by reading about human anatomy (Bill Bryson, The Body). What a machine! All these processes going on all the time, glands spurting out this or that hormone, heart thumping away, kidneys filtering out the salt I sprinkled on my dinner. It’s amazing and alarming. I could help things out by sleeping, but here I am, wide awake. 4.44am now …
Yes… it has some interesting stats and info, and Bryson’s breezy style makes it an easy read. For instance: “If you put all Earth’s microbes in one heap and all the other animal life in another, the microbe heap would be twenty-five times greater than the animal one.”
I’m especially enjoying the historical stories, all the crazy medical practices in the past, how breakthroughs were made and so on.
Awesome, thank you!
