These were my thoughts in the other post.

    Tentatively curious.

What was shown of the hotel reminds me of REVII. I’m not sure how it ties to Raccoon, aside from the fact that the protagonist is the daughter of a character from Outbreak, but Raccoon City post-nuke is an interesting setting to explore — and regular zombies seem to be a returning enemy? I’m not sure if they are planning to have flashback sequences during the outbreak, or if the zombies will make an appearance in the present day timeline).

Happy to see a new MC. Ethan was okay-ish but painfully bland, I hope she’ll be more interesting.

Her being the daughter of an Outbreak game is interesting. I always thought that game wasn’t canon. I’m excited to play this game. It looks like it’ll be a proper horror game unlike Village.

I say this as someone who has played RE since its inception and is heavily invested in the lore of the series: canon in the RE universe is a loose term.

Events, characters and details here and there are contradicted or ret-conned pretty much every other entry. They keep most of the relevant stuff straight, so the vast majority of people don’t notice.

It looks like it’ll be a proper horror game unlike Village.

I don’t disagree, but my main gripe with Village was that it didn’t feel like a new, next-gen RE entry. It felt more like REVII part 2, in gameplay, characters and AI of the enemies.

I hope IX will tread new grounds instead of rehearsing VII yet again, which is why I said that I’m “tentatively” curious. I hope the hotel won’t just be a reskin of the house from VII, and post-nuke Raccoon City won’t be a way to reskin the experience and content from RE2/3 remake.

Village had the antagonists be too talkative (and too hot). Part of the Resident Evil Formula is that you fight monsters that can’t be reasoned with, having every boss have a monolog and a sad backstory goes against that. It also didn’t have the feeling isolation that earlier titles had. I really hope Requiem returns to that.

I’m just surprised there isn’t some tortured way that “IX” fits into the name. I would have easily bet that it would be called Resident Evil HELIX or Resident Evil RADIX for no goddamn reason.
