To put a long story short I’m living in their empty apartment they bought and renovated from scratch. They plan to retire in it eventually. The economy doesn’t let me move out.

The apartment has sound insulation issues. Not only that but the people living below me are literally evil and insane.

They hammer shit in the middle of the night and also imitate me. Like they always run the water when I take a shower, or they imitate my cats meowing or if I cough etc.

Whenever I mention any of this to my parents they gaslight me and tell me I’m insane and creating “imaginary problems that don’t exist”

They’ve even tried framing me multiple times and trying to make me into the scapegoat, complaining to management about the sounds they’re making and saying it’s me.

I’ve begged my parents to go to management about them cause they’re the owners of the apartment and they keep brushing me off.

I’m literally being psychologically tortured all day every single fucking day and all night.

I just don’t fucking understand how and why my own parents are so adamently trying to say I’m delusional and talking well about these people who are torturing me, just because those people are polite to my parents in the hallways.

If everything smells like shit, check your shoe. Lots of people telling giving you great advice, while also telling you to double check your own health. We can’t help you if you won’t listen. If the whole world is out to get you it’s probably time for a checkup.

I would pursue two avenues simultaneously. The first is to get some proof - start recording and see if you can capture the incidents. Evidence is king.

The second, check your place for a carbon monoxide leak. Just to rule out the possibility that this could actually be a delusion brought on by CO inhalation.

I would second this but not specifically the CO issue. Anything you do to “check the facts” would help out a lot. I would recommend finding someone you can trust to try to verify what you are going through. There are all sorts of things that might create magical thinking or delusions. Gathering evidence on your own might even play into that magical thinking if it is the case. If you get someone else that you trust to experience it first hand, then that would be the best way to validate your experiences.

Whatever it is, it sounds like an incredibly frustrating situation. I hope you find resolution to it.

Why yikes? If you have someone there in your apartment to verify that this stuff is happening, then you can recruit them as an ally to help convince your parents or the landlord that it’s happening.

Don’t be offended, this genuinely happens and you wouldn’t know. Sure, you are most likely not hallucinating but it doesn’t hurt to check for CO.

See how your story looks like to us: you are hearing things, claiming it can’t be recorded with a microphone, saying that other people are telling you you are imagining things. Saying your neighbours are “evil” without saying why. How does that sound?

Well we don’t have carbon monoxide issues here because we don’t use gas in houses or buildings. If it’s environmental then everyone would be hallucinating

It can be recorded with a microphone just not the stomping footsteps which is a huge part of the abuse, which usually only occurs when my tv is on which makes it impossible to record

Not gonna explain why they’re evil for 8 hours to a bunch of people like you whose only goal online is to argue with people

Record all instances, if they’re doing it constantly this should be easy to capture using a phone or camera with a mic

do you have an old cell phone? (or, don’t underestimate freecycle!) You could put it under your bed or something, so it’s closer to the sound, and leave it recording. Maybe turn up the mic’s sensitivity. Portable charge banks are helpful if you have one.

Portable charge bank? What would that be for? I mean can’t I just plug the phone in if it’s indoors?

My old cellphones have all been dropped so many times that I don’t think the recorders are working very well. The only phone that has a good mic is my current one.

If you set up a camera you’ll 100% catch the noise at some point, you should try it

How can it be loud enough to keep you up day and night but quiet enough to not be captured by any sort of microphone?

You are having paranoid delusions and you should consult a physician or mental health specialist

Hey, I just wanted to say I’m really sorry you’re going through this—it sounds incredibly overwhelming and isolating. I can’t imagine how exhausting it must be to feel like no one is on your side or even willing to listen.

When things start to feel like they’re always connected or targeted at you, even if others don’t see it, it might be worth checking in with a doctor—just to rule out anything physical or mental that could be amplifying your stress. Stuff like sleep issues, environmental things (like carbon monoxide as already mentioned; there was another users whose dad went through super similar because of CO poisoning), or even long-term anxiety can really mess with our perspective sometimes.

That doesn’t mean your experience isn’t real or that people aren’t being awful—it just means it might help to have someone supportive and objective help you sort through it. You don’t deserve to feel like this alone.

“here are some ways you can verify to those doubting you, with proof, that this is a real issue you’re going through”

“I can’t do those things and yikes”

Did you make this post just to complain, or are you looking for a solution? And the apartment might be under your parent’s name, but what’s stopping you from talking to management yourself? People are legitimately trying to help you, but everything you say makes it harder and harder for people to take you seriously.

I think it’s the case for a lot of people. I mean otherwise we wouldn’t have places like the subreddits r/InternetParents, r/FamilyYouChoose and r/momForAMinute. Just today I saw a lemmy community called c/dadForAMinute in a similar vein.
