What an incredible reaction to going a goal down. I forgot to vote, but I thought Martinelli really showed his quality. I felt the whole game, Saka was really missing his link up play with Odegaard and Ben White, but still managed to put in an amazing performance.
I don’t know what was going on with Jesus. He made some really great plays but just way too indecisive in dangerous positions. I don’t know if it’s a confidence issue, or if he just isn’t gelling with anyone. Havertz on the other hand continues to prove the doubters wrong.
I agree with Saka. He’s always class, but I still felt he was a little quiet at first. But, still managed to get 2 assists and a goal to his name. I like that the left seems to have opened up more, but you can still feel the difference in link up play without White and Øde.
Although Nelli doesn’t have any goals to show for it, he puts in so much work on the wing, attacking and getting back to defend as well. I think one of the reasons he gets scored lower is due to missed chances and not because he hasn’t played particularly well.
Jesus is a difficult one. I can’t say I noticed him much except for some moments in the game. It makes you wonder; sometimes everything you touch turns to gold or shit and his may be the latter. I do think Saints put in a shift defensively, which made things difficult for everyone.
MotM was difficult for me. Each had their faults, but I thought Saka, Havertz and Calafiori deserved a look-in.
Saka is an obvious choice, Havertz once again showing why he’s our main man with 7 consecutive home goals in 7 games (you could also make an argument that without him kicking off the scoring we still struggle).
Then, the absolute energy and tenacity from Calafiori. Even if he makes a mistake and loses the ball, he just yoinks it straight back off you and makes a dashing run into space to progress the ball up the field.
I also really liked the energy from Trossard, which is pretty par for the course. His choices in the final third could have been better though
