The release date of the upcoming first-person shooter survival horror game, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, has reportedly been revealed ahead of an official announcement.

Multiple online retailers, including Amazon, are now listing the release date for GSC Game World’s indefinitely delayed first-person shooter survival horror game, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The game will be playable at Gamescom 2023, which takes place between August 23, 2023 and August 27, 2023. It’s likely that an official announcement will be made at the event in this regard.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Release Date The release date listed by the aforementioned online retailers can be seen below.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to launch on Microsoft Windows and the Xbox Series X/S platforms. It marks the fourth installment in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, as well as the series’ debut on consoles. Notably, it also breaks a 13-year hiatus in the series, as the last release, Call of Pripyat, was back in 2009. The game was originally delayed by the developer to December, 2022. It appears that it will finally see the light of day an additional year after the intended release date.

Initially revealed in the aftermath of Call of Pripyat’s launch, the game was initially slated for a 2012 release. Those plans were shelved, however, and the game was officially canceled in the same year it was meant to launch. Several years later, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl made a resurgence in 2018. Its development was re-initiated, this time powered by Unreal Engine 5. As mentioned earlier, the game was originally slated to hit store shelves on December 8, 2022. However, due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, development was temporarily halted. The development team later communicated through their official Discord server that work on S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl was ongoing, and the game is targeting a release in 2023. It looks like we finally have a concrete release date.

The original STALKER was ahead of its time. Given the hell this dev has gone through the past couple of years I’ll gladly put my money down to help them out a bit.

I’m actually pretty optimistic about this release. If GCG is able to meet the standard 4A has set for Eastern European devs we should be in for a good title that doesn’t fall victim to much modern games business trends like macro-transactions.

I’ve recently finished Into the Radius which is a similar concept for VR and had a blast playing that.
