I’m attempting to polish up the end of the current arc of my longfic. I like having a buffer for my weekly upload schedule! There are two more chapters to write and then I’m on to planning the next arc.
The other thing I’m doing is preparing for my other fandom’s rarepair week. I have decided to use all three of the daily prompts as three separate stories–trying for 21 mini fics instead of 7 in total. I’ve written four of them and started another two. They are due by the beginning of September, so I can’t slack off!
The latest chapter on one of my favourite Stranger Things fics dropped so I spent this morning happily reading that. Its wordy & descriptive & flies in the face of every English teacher who ever moaned about overuse of adjectives & adverbs. I absolutely love it! 🤩
Writing-wise, I’m whittling 3 chapters down to 1 because really that’s all that’s needed for this reconciliation/makeup & there was waaaay to much talking & exposition in the last version. Then I’ve got a chapter of pure smut that’s pretty much all written because I pulled it from an earlier point in my longfic, it just needs some connective tissue to make it work where I want it. And I’m kind of hanging to get back to that after several very, let’s say, dry chapters that seemed like a good idea at the time but may have driven half my readers away. 🤦♀️
There are chapters which are necessary and make sense when you read an entire story, but when readers are getting one chapter at a time they just don’t get it. Hopefully your readers get that and are sticking around!
Folks will take what they want from a story. Readers will often return for the parts they love. For some, it will be for the whole story, for others it may be more selective. Still, you’ve created content that people are genuinely enjoying engaging with even if not every chapter is for everyone.
Thanks both 😊
