NEW: researchers say #TikTok screen time predicts level of pro-#China views on key topics.
Why? They say #TikTok boosts pro-#China content & actively suppress criticisms of China.
E.g. they find sensitive topics like #Taiwan, persecution of #Uyghurs & #Tibet are buried by pro-#CCP influencer content & irrelevant vids.

If you have a problem with Tiktok but don’t have a problem with Facebook or Instagram then your opinion is worthless. At least tiktok makes a good product, so good that American lawmakers are scared because they can’t control them.
My guy you’re on lemmy I’d be surprised if anywhere close to half of us had instagram accounts. Facebook is generally delegated to “keeping up with a couple old relatives and maybe facebook market place/certain hobbies that unfortunately exclusively organize on facebook”
I use FB for marketplace, local groups, and dull men’s club.
I kind of have to have an instagram account, I feel like a lot of us are in that boat. I’m not happy about it though.
Spoken like a true addict.
Tiktok is genuinely terrible, as is Facebook and Instagram (though TikTok is somewhat worse).
You’re on Lemmy. People here don’t like Facebook or Instagram either.
I agree with your first half, but what the fuck is good about TikTok?
Whereas FB and insta are 98% ads and reposts, tiktok has some vitality.
Elaborate?
