I’ve always made up a person to fit in. Masking has taken a toll and I hate the person I’ve pretended to be. That person is boring, polished, and an over achiever. Since.I was punished severely on a daily basis at 4 years old and afterwards, my true self never was known to me. Only my self who could survive.
Where do we find our unmasked real self after reaching “the big one” burnout? When your braim stops working, you’re no longer functional, and the person you made can no longer be sustained, what do you do?
I’m in my 40s and it’s rough.

8 years your junior and barely starting medication and therapy after recent diagnosis…here’s my thoughts
I’ve realized thst sometimes ill latch on to a joke or a made up story, or funny way to say a word…most people will respond eith derision, confusion, and or rarely anger. Rarely people will wuite enjoy that particularly quip or joke and even rarer someone will use it on someone else and then report to me how the receiver thought they were crazy or something and ive had to tell people that cannot say some of the things I say unless theu understand and are prepared for that reaction lol…
When I have good energy, and low anxiety I can handle these bad reactions…and when I do not, yes, it hurts not to be able to express myself fully foe wither (a) low social engagement / lack of energy / lack of task initiation / depression or (b) fear of reaction / lack of interest in sharing positively with people who “possiby dont deserve my personhood”
Hmmm so I am sorry you experience something like that (At least thats how I conceptualized it)
I believe we, humanity, ADHD or not have an impetus to output the most genuine versions of ourselves online and elsewhere as, ADHD or not, we are all also effected (by varying degrees) by the disenguinity and love-absent and kindness-deprived reality of many parts of the internet and corporate working.
? Sometimes for me…I need to be alone for long periods of time, I meed to experience some amount of lack of stimulation and real boredom pulling me into my (“home self”) wherein I read Wikipedia articles, try something novel like crocheting or juggling, and generate some new shiny thing which adds in to my growing sense of broad-spectrum interests as a part of “me” and my personality.
Sorry for long text which is only somewhat coherent
