And I say that without a hint of irony.

I originally thought it was going to be something like that James Bond movie where the nose cone of the rocket opens up and “eats” the satellite.
artifex@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you doodle as an automatism? If so, what do your results look like?14·3 days agoAlmost constantly on calls and meetings. If I’m not moving my hands I’m not paying attention or absorbing and storing information. Or, as I like to say, just another day with debilitating ADHD.

artifex@lemmy.zipto Linux@programming.dev•What's your "Oh fuck, that actually worked!" Linux moment that made you feel like a wizard?9·4 days agoI’ve you ever looked at CUPS code? Forget wizardry, it’s straight up Eldritch lore in typed form.
artifex@lemmy.zipto Technology@lemmy.ml•Meta Secures Bittersweet Fair Use Victory in AI 'Piracy' Case * TorrentFreak4·4 days agoSo yesterday’s Anthropic victory said that the use of copyrighted works to train LLMs was fair use, but only because Anthropic had been buying and scanning in the media so the first sale doctrine was protecting them. Did the judge in the facebook case now really say that it was ok to pirate the materials in the first place because there was no market harm? That seems impossible, it seems like it would open up a huge loophole in copyright law.
Nice try, ChatGPT. No more training data and PII from me, thank you very much.

artifex@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Be Wholesome@lemmy.world•What's a little thing you've noticed recently?30·6 days agoThere are suddenly a lot of those little lending libraries in my neighborhood again. I feel like they were a big thing maybe 10-15 years ago and then fell by the wayside. In the last year I’ve noted 4 or 5 new ones, well stocked, and on one occasion saw someone put a book in and take another out. Just simple, well-mannered neighborliness.
artifex@lemmy.zipto Fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Smol fedi - how I think fediverse should workEnglish7·8 days agoFrom this recent blog post, Recently PieFed added a way to group communities into collections of related communities, which we called a “Feed”. Unlike Topics, Feeds are federated, can be created by anyone and can be public or private. There are now hundreds of feeds at https://piefed.social/feeds.
This lets niche topic communities continue to spawn across instances (thus avoiding all-eggs-in-one-basket issues) but makes it more convenient for users to see all similar content in a single place.
Any hallmark channel original content is like white noise for your brain. If you like to have something on in the background but want to have absolutely no stake in the content it’s a good choice.
artifex@lemmy.zipto Fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Smol fedi - how I think fediverse should workEnglish8·8 days agoI actually think this is the biggest argument for using something like piefed over lemmy. The ability to aggregate multiple similar communities into a single channel lets you see/interact with a fuller content feed for even more niche areas while not having said niche be reliant on a particular instance.
Wait that’s what you would do if you had nothing to lose? Why wouldn’t you just do that now?
Never get involved in a land war in Asia.
Never. EVER see this with your parents, even if it is “on Broadway”
