Pfft, only a true beta user uses BlueSky. Real men tame their own Mastodon server.

Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Never a better time to switch to Jellyfin: Plex increases price of Lifetime Plex Pass to $749.99English
1·3 days agoDuckdns & nginx proxy manager. I don’t know what you’re using to run your server, but look up those two services; they’re not difficult to set up and they work well.
My goodness, I have my pass that I bought years ago for like €35, if I had to pay that I wouldn’t even do it as a joke, I just hope they don’t end up trying to squeeze more out of those who already have one, I’ve been trying jellyfin anyway just in case

31·9 days agoIn the hands of a responsible public authority and used for anti-terrorism and anti-espionage it could be very useful, but of course, what public or non-public authority is trustworthy enough? In any case, others are going to use it against us, perhaps its use is not optional.

World News@lemmy.world•World ‘unprepared’ for next pandemic as countries fail to agree on sharing information, tests and vaccinesEnglish
312·11 days agoOne of the things that shocked me most about the pandemic was that no country had plans in place for the situation. I had always imagined the basement of some boring government building filled with folders containing plans for all kinds of contingencies, how naive of me.
If you make plans on calm, pleasant days, you’ll forget things; if you make them on the fly in a panic, it will be complete chaos. And it wasn’t just one country, it was everyone; nobody knew what to do. From what I can see, we’re still the same.
I don’t use it for privacy, I would never use a free VPN for that and even less one without a paid version (where do they get the money for the service?) I use it to bypass regional blocks or blocked pages in my country (due to piracy in most cases) and for that it works quite decently.
Yes, I think that at least part of the property is owned by a Chinese consortium (I think not 100% of the company) it also uses Chormium with everything it implies and as I said the VPN is free which itself should make anyone suspicious. I didn’t mean to say that opera is perfect as a browser, but this specific service provides it better than firefox and despite its problems, for me, the work boards function is what makes me use it by default
Opera’s VPN doesn’t require registration and has no limits, So it’s a free VPN, don’t use it for anything important, but at least it’s not an obvious scam.

Thank goodness we don’t have rules against low-effort memes, because reality provides us with ready-made jokes.
I use AdGuard; it’s not perfect, but it’s simpler than anything else and it works, I don’t know, maybe 80-90%.

Do elderly women have to stream videos to pay for cancer treatments? My father has cancer, and all his bills this year add up to €0. Well, sometimes I leave the car in a paid parking lot; in the whole year it’s probably been around €20.
